Death Notice and Obituary for Michael Andrew Decker
Michael Andrew Decker passed away suddenly in his home on February 20, 2024. He was 58 years of age. Michael is survived by his three sons: Oscar, Michael A., Mark A; his mother, Barbara A. (Mercier); his brother Andrew; three grandchildren: Arianna, Aleia and Sadie; and nephew Jacob. He was predeceased by his father, Andrew.
For the past 36 years Michael worked for City Council. During the last 15 years, he served as City Council’s Chief Clerk, an elected position by Council Members each term. His responsibilities included recording legislation, ensuring Council meetings follow legislative rules, and handling a variety of other administrative tasks. He was also tasked with maintaining archives of council business in an office where ordinances dating back to 1854 are logged. As Clerk, he tracked hundreds of resolutions and bills that Council members introduced each year, from zoning changes to amendments to the city’s Home Rule Charter. (Information taken from the Philadelphia Inquirer.)
Michael is remembered by his family as a “perfecter of many skills”! He was a hard worker, skilled musician, avid reader (especially the Bible), involved in church ministry, “a gamer” and loved bikes, (all kinds). They fondly refer to him as a “direct straight shooter.”
