Studio Incamminati student, Sarjan Dhakal is from Nepal with interests in building culture through community.
“I have a passion for creating paintings. I began researching places that had more opportunities for learning realist art... portraiture and figure painting.
Nepal is rich in traditional and folk art and has treasures of creativity. Although some artists practice contemporary realist art in Nepal, they are not professionally trained. So, I chose to study classical realist art here in the United States. With this dream, I joined Studio Incamminati in Fall, 2021. I am thankful to everyone who supported me to be here.
I dream to sow the seed of contemporary realist art in Nepal.
My country faces economic challenges, and my family does as well. Even though I face obstacles, my inner desire and hunger to learn the skill of painting keeps me strong and motivated.
Big dreams need a big plan and proper ex*****on. The Soul of the Himalaya is not just a project but a part of me. It aims to weave Nepalese culture with the American art form of realism.”
Artists will be demonstrating portraiture of Nepalese people in traditional dress. The paintings will be sold and proceeds will go to the Non Resident Nepali Association.
This event is open to the public.
Art and Connect with NextGen at Bok - Natural Lands NextGen Council invites you to Gregory Blue and the Landscapes of Stroud Preserve.
This course is designed to mirror the foundational, level 1 curriculum of Studio Incamminati’s nationally accredited Advanced Fine Art/BFA program. This course is 16 full days, meeting over five weeks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with space between classes for practical application and reinforced learning. On days off students will have access to Studio Incamminati’s studios and library. Each class day will be alternatingly taught by a member of Studio Incamminati’s senior faculty; Stephen Early, Darren Kingsley and Lea Colie Wight-each an apprentice of the founder of Studio Incamminati, Nelson Shanks.
In the course, artists will begin by studying gestures in human figure through short poses in charcoal. Working in loose, broad strokes, participants will learn how to consistently and powerfully state the full figure with dynamic movement as the founding concept of drawing. The development of mass drawing and gestural drawing considerations will continue into intermediate poses as students are shown the principles for building in gesture and constructing figurative structure in the later stages.
Charcoal figure study is the core to the Studio Incamminati’s introductory curriculum. The medium lends itself to painterly mass drawing and is easily and quickly corrected, making it a perfect channel to learn the fundamentals in a way that both prepares one for painting, and creates a bravura drawing.

This year at our Body Electric exhibition, for the night of the exhibition only, there will be a display of “Out of the Box” works. While our classical training is historically built on the tradition of painting the figure, many of our graduates apply the skills they have learned in a variety of ways: animal paintings, imaginative works, tattoos, pen and ink, and more. Visit to see where our future generation of artists are headed.
