It has been twenty three years since a morning which started with sunshine and blue skies turned into a day filled with sorrow and tragedy. A day which must never be forgotten.

There were many heroes that day who risked everything to save others. Some made the ultimate sacrifice. Firefighters, Police, Emergency Medical Teams and ordinary citizens.

And for many months after that day, Search and Rescue Dogs worked beside their handlers. They were not only a part of rescue and recovery, but were a source of comfort. Their contribution was invaluable.

Time passes, but the memory of the events of that tragic day must never be allowed to fade.

Happy Father’s Day to all the special Dads who love nothing more than making memories with their children, grandchildren and four-legged kids! Memories that will be cherished.

As we gather for Memorial Day, it is important that we take time to reflect on the real reason behind this day. We must all pause, remember and thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Our freedom and democracy are fragile. We must be sure that they are never lost or the sacrifice made by so many will have been in vain.

In these tumultuous times, Thanksgiving seems even more important this year. It is a day to reflect on all that we have been given and to share those blessings with others. As we gather with friends and loved ones, let us pray for a time when everyone can live in peace.

Our Katie, simply the sweetest little girl in the world, has lost her battle with mammary cancer. Our hearts are broken. She was so special. Rescued from life on the street, she just wanted to be with her Moms or in her garden. Never demanding of attention. Happy to sit on your lap or draped over the arm of the sofa. The picture of unconditional love. We felt that same love for her.

She was such a trooper. Her oncologist at BluePearl Levittown, Dr. Campbell, and her nurses, Jess and Nicole, could not believe how good she was during her treatments. She knew that everyone was trying to help her and she was thankful. We are thankful for the Oncology team as well as her surgeon, Dr. Deahl. You gave us time which we would not otherwise have had.

You are free now, Katie. There will never be a day that you are not missed. Until we meet again.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Canine Couture Collection. As we celebrate with family and friends this July 4th, we should pause and remember how much it means to be an American. What it means to live in “the land of the free and the home of the brave” and what each of us needs to do to preserve those freedoms and liberties for future generations.

Although their people may enjoy celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks, most dogs and cats do not. Please be sure to remember to create a place, away from the loud noise, where your pets will feel and be safe. Statistics show that more dogs are lost during 4th of July celebrations than at any other time of the year. Fireworks can be very scary and we certainly don’t want our pets to feel stressed by them.

Today, we must all make time to reflect upon the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is a day, first observed as Decoration Day, on May 5th 1868. A day set aside to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. A day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. We must never forget that freedom is not free. And we must honor those who have allowed us to enjoy the freedom we cherish.

On this Mother’s Day, we hope all of you who are Mothers, recognize how much you mean to your children and just how much you have impacted their lives. There simply are no words to adequately express how much your unconditional love means.

On this Earth Day, we should all try to impact the world in the most positive way. What would our world be like without the beauty of all things provided by nature? I, for one, hope never to find out.
