Our Story
Founded in 2008, The Institute Bar was the little engine that could of craft beer bars in the city of Philadelphia. The location was wrong. The ex*****on was always a little off. The ghost was a jerk. But we had heart. A lot of hearts. We became more than a corner bar. We became a living room for the anti-social socialites and misfits. Times change. The neighborhood evolved. And then an opportunity presented: Move in to a new space, one block over. The decision was made to sell the building in order to move the business in to an updated space, on one level, with the added bonus of a roof top for a beer garden. Coming in September of 2019, we will reopen at 525 N. 11th Street in the Independence Lofts building. Our staff from the old location is coming with us. Along with an elite crew of industry professionals who are going to help us carry on our commitment to offering great food, beer, and cocktails in a no-pretentiousness no b.s. setting.
