Warren advances to yellow/white belt!
This guy came into our program last year with a lot of caution and reservations and has grown into one of our most fearless students. Warren is a great example of consistent, hard work and an eagerness to walk forward towards challenges and chip away at them until the hard parts become easy.
Congrats sir! Well deserved.
July Slamboree in the books! Fun open mat last night with a solid crew 💪
Tuff work last night 💪
Had a fun outing at the tournament today in Bala Cynwyd!
Congrats to
ovr
On strong performances today!
Also big thanks to the "fellas" for coming out to support: Judgment Night Kev, Tall Dashaun, Sports Dad Coltrane, Johnny Salami, British James, and the Dogfather (Ryan).
Back to the mats Monday. EXCELSIOR!
Wednesday's nogi class is popping as usual
Seeing some great progress in the wrestling overall -- we continue with our single leg series through mid August! Make sure to transfer these skills to both your underhook half guard games as well as your seated guard wrestle ups. In many ways they are all the same thing, just on different planes.
We also have a few athletes competing this weekend at the tournament in Bala Cynwyd and hope to see some new skills displayed on the mats!
Slamboree is one week from today! Speak with a coCh if you are interested in testing up to Striking 201 👍
NEW DRIP FOR THE KIDS
FINALLY our Junior Samurai MMA shirts have arrived! Youth sizes available from small to large with plenty to go around.

Ok so long post incoming..
Life is about many things, but it's also about cycles. Fighting is a microcosm of life in many ways.. the patterns and rhythms of combat and the training lifestyle behind it mirror the patterns and rhythms of our struggles outside the ring. This is why martial arts training is a key aspect of any healthy lifestyle. But I'm getting off topic..
What you saw last night was a very tough, very gutsy 5 round fight between two of the absolute best women in the USA in their respective weight classes. That is not an exaggeration. Gianna came into the fight at 19-0 and Yaz at 13-0 with 12 stoppages.
What you didn't see was the end of a cycle.
Yaz and G had their first smoker against each other (technically Gs second but I don't count the first). They had a very tough, very gutsy three round fight against each other. This was before G was THE Gianna Vadino and Yaz was THE Yasmine Eubanks.
For the last three years the spectre of Yasmine has been ever present in Gs career. The promise of an impending reckoning where they would eventually have to converge paths again after three years of actively clearing out, quite literally, the entire country of fighters in their class.
When we got the offer to fight Yas it was terrifying in many ways. The end of the cycle was in front of G and who she would be walking OUT of that ring afterwards would be an incredibly different person than she who walked IN.
Life has seminal moments.. births, deaths, marriages.. and for some of us, fights. Many fights are routine, but for each fighter there is usually one that gets its very own chapter in the story of their life. Happy to see this chapter written and closed and excited to put pen to paper for what's next.
Props to both athletes last night, it has been a privilege as a coach to be along for this ride. And congrats to the NEW 132lb champ !
Thanks to the entire team for creating and tending the fertile ground that allows these types of stories to bloom, to for the coaching assist, and to the team for making this happen.

Thanks to coach Owen for a great wrestling workshop this month! We'll be working the single leg series through mid August 🤼
Yesterday we hosted a Staff Preview for our new space at 6673 (coming sorta soonish, sorta not.. it's complicated). Still in the paperwork phase of getting everything sorted out but it's coming along!
Big week coming up for the academy with ._ and heading to NYC for on Friday!
Get a good night's sleep -- back to work tomorrow 🥊🥊
Makhi Anthony joins Gianna Vadino next week as he makes his debut on the undercard.
Makhi is as smooth as they come and he has put in such an honest and disciplined training camp for this one -- expect a great show! Contact us for tickets.
Thanks to the Warrior's Cup team for getting this one done. Less than two weeks away!
Let's go Khi!!

Vacation's over, time to train.

Parabens Mike! Time to dust off the gi finally 😂🤙
100% beef no filler 💪
Let's take a moment to appreciate the hard work that ._ has been putting in these past few months. Makhi laced up his work boots and put in a full day of sparring yesterday at our PRO/AM event and then another set today with consummate skill.
Thank you to and the .elite team for hosting a great sparring event and always being extremely gracious in everything they do 🙏
Makhi is 100% a true product of our program here and, like many of our students, showcases a varied and sharp skillset. No gimmicks just time and hard work.
100-1
Today we hosted over 100 athletes from across the tri state area (and beyond) for our 2024 PRO/AM Sparring Meetup.
Stats, media, war stories are all coming down the pipeline.
But for now it's time to clean the gym and get ready for another week of training 🥊
Big thank you, especially, to all the fellow coaches who have helped build such a strong community beyond the borders of their own academies and whose commitment to the sport, their students, and the culture at large has made every year more rewarding than the last.
Stay posted -- we have a LOT of cool stuff to share in the coming days and weeks.

We are days away from our next PRO/AM event!
This year we are introducing the GEAR SWAP!
Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to bring some team apparel to donate to our gear exchange. Those who participate in the exchange can take a shirt or shorts from the exchange at the end of the event.
This will be a fun way to make new connections (and also get rid of one of the dozens of team sheets you have laying around).
Doors open at 11:30, orientation at 12:00, first round at 12:15!

Had a great open mat this morning!
Remember: BJJ open mat every Saturday at 11am! Gi, nogi, whatever 🤷
No 8am comp training next Saturday for Muay Thai but the rest of the schedule is intact-- our PRO/AM event kicks off at 12pm on the 29th!
(And yes if you've been following along this initially got posted to the wrong account 😉)
Drink LOTS of water this weekend.
Keep bananas on hand.
Train hard. But know your limits.
See you in the mats!
Where's Waldo?? 🟥⬜🟥🤓⬜🟥⬜
The only constant in life is change -- we are unfortunately saying good bye to coach Larry this month as he relocates to a new home in the city, and with it, new beginnings and opportunities for him and his family.
It has been a privilege over the last few years to have Larry on the staff. He is a brilliant educator, extremely patient, and well studied in the art of Muay Thai. Those qualities together make for a great coach and his presence on the mats (especially for our newer students as they hit the ground running in this crazy sport) has been wonderful.
While Larry's last class is technically Saturday, June 29th, we will be officially sending him off in style on Wednesday the 26th for "Larrypalooza."
Coach Larry will run our 201 class that day and share some of his skills, experience, and favorite drills with us. Rumor has it there might be cake as well.. who knows???
If we're lucky maybe he will share some of the secrets to the "Larry Lock" too 😉
We still have a few weeks with Larry so make sure you get a chance to catch up with him!
As with all things Muay Thai it's never good bye, it's always "see ya later," and there will be plenty of opportunities to follow up and connect with him in the future.

Training--with a Purpose
Have you ever truly trained, with a Purpose?
Let’s be real--anyone can sign up for a traditional gym membership. $20/month, access to the facililty, and you’re on your own.
Anyone can also get behind the wheel of a car and slam down on the gas pedal. That doesn’t mean you’ll learn how to drive! And it surely doesn’t mean you have both the road map, and the navigational skills, to get where you want to be!
Success isn’t just about access--it’s about having the right tools, the right attitude, the right environment, and the right mentors. When you put these elements together, something magical happens.
