In addition,
- Everyone will have an opportunity to sample traditional assorted Chinese dim sum upon their arrival.
- There will be a short presentation about Chinese New Year, culture, food, and traditions, such as dumplings.
- A competition for proficiency in the use of chopsticks will be held. The winner will receive a beautiful handmade Chinese Calligraphy toaster!

Happy Lunar New Year! Had so much fun dumpling class 🧧🐇🥟 we sampled dim sum, learned about the history of Chinese new year and traditions, and then made dumplings along with tangyuan. Yin was such a great instructor. Definitely recommend this experience!

We are on Visit Philly as part of Lunar New Year Celebration in Philly!

January 21 – February 14, 2023 (select dates)

The Dumpling Academy’s popular hands-on dumpling workshops are back for The Year of the Rabbit. Led by an expert instructor, participants work together to prepare savory dumpling fillings before wrapping, cooking and enjoying the delicious treats as a group. In addition to dumplings, the class will learn to make Tangyuan — a traditional Chinese rice ball dessert that is a staple of Lunar New Year celebrations. Bonus: Participants enjoy complimentary dim sum snacks before class gets underway. Tickets and registration are required.

2023 Chinese New Year Celebration (2023 Chinese New Year, Year of Rabbit will be Sunday, January 22)

We are extremely excited to bring the Chinese Lunar New Year Hand Made Dumpling Event back to Philadelphia this year! We cordially invite you, your families, and your friends to attend a fun DIY Dumpling + Tangyuan cooking experience.

Tangyuan (汤圆), also known as yuanxiao, is a ping-pong sized traditional Chinese desert, taking its name from a Chinese homophone for union (tuányuán). This glutinous rice ball is only offered around Chinese New Year, and symbolizes togetherness and completeness; as well as being super tasty!

So everyone will learn a new cooking skill – making dumplings + Tangyuan (汤圆)!

Come learn to make your own dumplings at the Dumpling Academy - Home of the Dumpling Queen - at our new location in Center City, Philadelphia! Wheel chair accessible and easy parking!
