Frank’s Barbershop in South Philadelphia is just a couple of blocks away from our friends at .international. The barbershop is a time capsule with devotional shrines and all. It was also where Sinatra would come in for a trim when he was in town.

He was of half Black & half Italian ancestry who played running back in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks. He was a key player in one of professional football's most famous plays, dubbed "The Immaculate Reception" by Pittsburgh sportscaster Myron Copehoto.
Another amazing event planned by the chapter of Naples. Music & a presentation of the book La Ragazza e Il Mare... Anzi Due by Gennaro Caliendo!

talian Gravy?
While most Americans will be enjoying gravy with their turkey this year, have you ever wondered why some Italian-Americans call their red tomato sauce the same way Americans call their brown turkey gravy? Thank you to our Veterans, young & old, for your service to our nation. We are forever in debt for your sacrifice and bravery! One amazing veteran that we would like to profile is William "Wild Bill" Guarnere, who was born in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 28, 1923. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Joseph and Augusta Guarnere, who were of Italian origin.
He was a United States Army paratrooper who fought in World War II as a non-commissioned officer with Easy Company & wrote Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends: Two WWII Paratroopers from the Original Band of Brothers Tell Their Story. Guarnere was portrayed in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers by Frank John Hughes
Congratulations to our 2022 Gala Honorees! Today we continue with Eugene Mattioni, Esq. is the son of Italian Immigrants and a beneficiary of their Italian gifts of gentleness, kindness, warmth, humor, music, art, science, architecture, among other treasures. She always retained and cherished her Italian heritage and love of her homeland. Shortly after they arrived, they all became U.S. citizen.
He attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy and received a B.S. with honors. He also attended Georgetown University and holds a License of Master of Ocean Steam and Motor Vessels of any gross tons. His professional experience includes his current position as the Chief Executive Officer of the Maritime Academy Charter School for the past three (3) years and served as the Board Chairman from 2006 through 2019 and a co-founder of the school that will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2023. One of Gene’s proudest accomplishments is that he was picked as the team MVP player for the Philadelphia Phillies & Fantasy Baseball team! This is exactly the reason he was chosen to be the recipient of the – we are honored to have him on our team!
Congratulations to our 2022 Gala Honorees!
We'll continue onwards with Antonio Brusco
Born in Calabria on August 30th 1938, Tony Brusco arrived in the United States in 1955 with his father, in search of the American Dream with the willpower to do so being young, intelligent, good-natured and meek. The lithography was of particular interest to him. After three years of lithographic schooling, he perfected his English and started working for Fleetwood Litho & Letter, Downtown Manhattan.
He became the owner of Fleetwood Litho and Letter in the early 1980s. His work was immediately appreciated by prestigious clients such as Revlon TOM FORD Estee Lauder , Express , Sotheby's and Metropolitan museum of art , producing for them catalogs and publications of refined taste.
He is married to Rosetta, his wife for 58 years. They have 10 Grandchildren. Tony's ties with Calabria can be summed up with his saying, "It is easier to take a Calabrese out of Calabria than Calabria out of a Calabrese's heart". Tony Brusco's relationship with the Italian Tri-State Area Community has been truly admirable for several decades, because he has a great sense of pride and achievement in the full gamut of life in America, a Blessed Country with an Italian name.
