Do you have a story to tell, information to share, or art/poems to display? Join this Zine-Making and Bookbinding Workshop, no experience is required! Zines are a great way of sharing your ideas with your community, and we’ll work together to craft your zine!
This class will focus on creating a zine out of your idea, covering how to make zines and bind small books. We’ll learn how to make 3 styles of zines. and 2 bookbinding styles. You can decide what matches your project best and by the end of class, you’ll have a finished zine, several blank zines and small books, and knowledge of how to produce more copies!

Explore the art of Western-style papermaking through this comprehensive introductory course. Participants will gain insight into the process of crafting sheets, modifying moulds to create distinctive designs, and maintaining an organized studio environment. A materials fee will provide you with pre-beaten cotton and abaca pulp, along with essential tools such as moulds, deckles, felts, and a drying setup. Please note that you will need to visit the studio next week to retrieve your dry paper.
Additionally, we kindly request that all attendees wear masks while at the Soapbox, regardless of vaccination status. Our instructor reserves the right to ask any individuals who do not adhere to this policy to leave the premises.
Instructor Information
Olivia Caro specializes in papermaking and book arts, focusing on themes of identity and home. As a teaching artist fellow with ArtistYear, Olivia has shared her expertise through various workshops at the Soapbox, Penland School of Crafts, Atlanta Printmakers Studio, the Dallas GA Public Library, and Grinnell College.
Tuition Details
The course fee is $40 for current Soapbox members and $45 for non-members.
Additionally, a $10 materials fee covers the pre-beaten cotton and abaca pulp, as well as access to our equipment. We look forward to fostering your creativity!

Join in on the excitement of creating a collaborative zine printed with vibrant Risograph at the delightful Soapbox Community Printshop in Philadelphia!🎉

**About This Exciting Event**
Get ready for a fantastic 3-hour experience where creativity, riso and and everyone’s favorite time of the year team up for a time that is sweeter than candy!
Dive into the joy of collaboration as we craft a colorful two-color, 12-page riso zine with a whimsical Halloween theme! Leave your digital devices at home; all the materials you’ll need for this hands-on project will be provided! Attendees will learn the fun basics of risograph printing while engaging in the creative process of layout for printing. This year, why not spread some joy by distributing zines instead of candy? No experience is needed—just bring your enthusiasm!
As a bonus, each participant will take home five copies of the zine and invaluable skills to incorporate risography into their future projects!
**Meet Our Instructors!**
Corey Bechelli is a talented comic artist and zine creator! With 20 years of experience, he has been printing and sharing quirky little gems and has showcased his work at zine fests, comic exhibitions, flea markets, and art book fairs across the country!
Dre Grigoropol is a wonderful illustrator and multimedia artist! With years of valuable experience teaching visual arts, Dre is dedicated to fostering creativity and community. An avid painter and printmaker Dre is involved in various artist groups, and serves on the board at the Soapbox. Check out more of her work at Dretime.net!

**Event Overview**
This foundational basketry workshop will provide participants with essential skills in twining using red materials. Attendees will discover techniques for establishing a base and constructing the walls of a basket, ultimately crafting a completed small basket to take home.
**Health and Safety Protocols:**
While masking is currently encouraged, it remains optional within the studio environment. Participants who prefer a masked setting for health or personal reasons may request that mask-wearing be observed during their time in the studio.

About This Event:
