Block 12 👏🏼

Our time is winding down. There's one more block to go before we say our sad goodbyes 😢(to our graduates) & our big hellos 👋🏼😃(to our new intens). This past month has been hectic but everything is taken in stride because that's what our residents do. There are a lot changes happening & more to come but we know that everything is as it should be.

Onward to our last block ➡️

🌟Research Recognition🌟

A couple of weeks ago, some of our residents were chosen to present their research at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting that is put on by the American Pediatric Association (APA).

❓What is PAS❓"The PAS meeting brings together thousands of pediatricians and other health care providers united by a common mission: improve the health and well-being of children worldwide. This international gathering includes researchers, academics, as well as clinical care providers and community practitioners. Presentations cover issues of interest to generalists as well as topics critical to a wide array of specialty and sub-specialty areas."

We're proud of all the hard work our residents put in 👏🏼🤩 We love that now their posters are posted around the hospital for all to see 💜 Thank you to all our attendings who helped with each project. Special thanks to Dr. Gail Cameron who was able to attend the meeting in support of the residents.

Block 10 👏🏼

Another block down which means another month closer to the end of the academic year 😢 We only have a little less than 3 months before our 3rd years graduate! Thankfully it's warm out again which means more opportunities to hang out & make memories before they leave 🤩

On to Block 11...☺️

03/17/2023

💜Welcome Class of 2026!!!💜

We're so excited to have you join our Einstein Peds family! We can't wait to meet you in person... July can't come fast enough! 🤩

Block 9💪🏼

Another block full of long days, long hours, lots of notes, procedures, etc. At this point in the year, it can feel like you're running on fumes, you haven't seen the sun for days, it's cold out, & those days off seem few & far between 😔 but in those moments you take to yourself to catch your breath, you look around & see these amazing co-residents in the fight with you 😃 You're not alone. There's always someone there with a hug 🤗, a shoulder to cry on, someone to make you laugh 🤣, & someone who motivates you through the day even when you feel you have no energy left 🥰 You realize "I can do this. WE can do this. We ARE doing it! 💪🏼".

This is residency & there will always be tough days but it's the people that get you through. Whether it's a co-resident, attending, nurse, MA, or staff member, there are people all around rooting for you that it's hard to stay down for too long. We're greatful for our Einstein family 💜

Now on to Block 10 😌 ...& hopefully some warmer weather 😆🌷🌞

I felt seen as an individual and valued as a future clinician and potential colleague. It seemed like I would fit right in 🥰. Beyond that I was looking for a smaller program so that I could build close connections with my co-residents, and I wanted one with an emphasis on community outreach 💜

But the enthusiasm, warmth, and candidness of the conversations woke me up, and that was also the first time I got the gut feeling that I would be truly very happy here, among these co-residents - and this feeling was only reinforced during the interview. Also, the fact that there is so much real work that can be actively done for the underprivileged 👏🏼😌

Goodbye Block 7 ✌🏼

There's something about the holiday season that brings a sense of family, togetherness, & fun but also with everyone getting sick 😷 Many of our little patients were getting sick with everything all at once which can be stressful for a family. Our residents were right there to provide them comfort, reassurance, & guidance on what to do. They kept up the holiday cheer to ensure that the kids still felt it ✨🎄🕎⛄

Now we're on to a new year which means the interns are halfway through their first year, the 2nd years are beginning to plan for fellowship or next life steps, & the 3rd years are getting ready to move on. These next few months will be exciting times & we can't wait! 😝

RSV & flu season is in FULL effect! Yikes 😷🤒 But we're not worried because our residents are ready for the challenge. They come to work each day with smiles on their faces & passion in their hearts. They rely on each other to get through the long days, pushing themselves to be the doctors that our little patients need.

We wish everyone to stay safe out there! Get your flu & COVID vaccines/boosters, practice proper hand washing techniques, wear a mask especially when sick, & when in doubt, call your P*P for more advice.

What does being PD mean to you?: Since medical school my goal was set on being a residency program director. My partners at my first job out of residency were understanding of my goal and always let me pursue administrative opportunities outside of the private practice. While at one of those opportunities, I was lucky enough to work with two dedicated and empowered women, Dr. Betty Drees and Dr. Brenda Rogers, who mentored me at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, giving me the necessary tools and knowledge to continue my pursuit of that ultimate goal. And while serving as an APD here (Einstein), I worked with another fiercely powerful woman, Dr. Kelly Dodds, who, unknowingly, I think, was an inspiration to me. So what does this role to me? As the fulfillment of a long-standing career goal which took almost two decades of my professional career to achieve, it signifies accomplishment and pride. It signifies purpose. It signifies appreciation. It is my "thank you" to those who believed in me and gave me the right opportunities ❤

Fun Fact(s): If I wasn’t a doctor, I would be a haunted house critic 👻

Why did you choose Einstein Pediatrics residency program?: I was excited about the strong academic environment 📚, mixed with a tight knit and supportive community 🤗, and the location 🏙! Ultimately, I wanted to train in an urban setting with a diverse patient population, but I also wanted a "small town" feel like what I had in West Virginia during medical school. Though my interview was virtual, the program felt like one big family with trainees and faculty who supported each other, and valued the learners – Einstein Pediatrics fit the bill perfectly 🤩!  At the end of my interview, I felt instantly connected with the faculty and residents, recognizing a similar passion for both pediatric primary care and underserved populations. Finally, the place: Philadelphia! The variety of food is unbelievable 😋, the Delaware River waterfront is gorgeous, and living so close (compared to West Virginia) to my family back on Long Island is just amazing ❤

It's a wrap on Block 3 🎬

Fall is here but as we look back on or final days of Summer, we feel such pride in our residents 😌 With staffing shortages across the hospital to the influx of patients for Back-to-school, allergy season, & Rhinovirus already wreaking havoc, our residents have worked long days going non-stop 🥵 This is difficult but we saw our residents rise to the challenge with determination to see each patient & provide the top tier care they deserve. They helped each other whether it was taking on more patients, providing words of encouragement, or being a listening ear when someone desperately needs to vent. Residency isn't always sunshine & giggles. What makes the hard times doable is having a great support system to power you through & we know our residents have that in each other 🤗 They are definitely Einstein Strong 💪🏼😎

Let's see what this dream team has in store next 🤩
