Summerfield for God & Neighbor
It's a blessing for Summerfield to be a part of this ministry!
“Thank you for remembering”
This is what one young lady took me aside to tell me today. Two weeks ago, she asked me if we could bring juice. We usually just have water. So, I added juice to our donation list. Today, she was so happy to get to choose some cold juice to go with her sandwich.
We remembered her.
THAT is what we are there to do. We are there to love people like Jesus loves us. He remembers us. He hears our pleas, knows what we need and remembers.
Thank you to everyone who joined us today and made it possible to love others in this way.
Just streamed the Udio-generated music I've prompted using central liturgical items from worship. Still some more to do (The Sanctus, Agnus Dei, Kyrie Eleison), but it's coming on fairly well. Definitely some quirks, some of which would be fixible with a new version of the software just released, but I'm pretty happy with it.

PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF EAST AFRICA!
Tanzania floods and landslides kill more than 150 - PM Kassim Majaliwa The prime minister warns that El Niño-triggered heavy rains are likely to continue into May.
This sums it up perfectly.
God came from Teman,
the Holy One from Mount Paran.
His glory covered the heavens
and his praise filled the earth.
His splendor was like the sunrise;
rays flashed from his hand,
where his power was hidden.
Plague went before him;
pestilence followed his steps.
He stood, and shook the earth;
he looked, and made the nations tremble.
The ancient mountains crumbled
and the age-old hills collapsed—
but he marches on forever
- Habakkuk 3:3-6
This time of the year it is good to have a friendly reminder about the difference between the Virgin Birth and the Immaculate Conception, two terms which are often confused.
The Virgin Birth states that Jesus was conceived by a miracle of the Holy Spirit without sexual in*******se. It is a belief held universally by Christian denominations.
The Immaculate Conception states that Mary, although conceived by normal sexual means, was conceived without the passing on of original sin to her. It is held only by Roman Catholic and Ethiopian & Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo churches.
A big study proves that one of the best ways to fight extreme poverty is to give people money - preferably all at once. And, no, that's not a joke criticizing the idea. It's a suggestion that we should be doing it a lot more!
It's one of the biggest experiments in fighting global poverty. Now the results are in The study focuses on a universal basic income and spans 12 years and thousands of people in Kenya. How did the money change lives? What's better: monthly payouts or a lump sum.
Love like Jesus loves!

His mom was last to pass away.
But he hopes that little Jesus
might have something kind to say."

Let's go on an Advent Road Trip and Journey to Christmas!
Starting Sunday, December 3, at

CHRISTMAS TREES AREN'T FROM PAGAN ORIGINS
While pagans used evergreen trees for various reasons, including for Yule celebrations, Christmas trees had a decidedly different origin from this.
The first mediaeval liturgical play, written in the 1100s and considered the oldest play written in French and the oldest mediaeval drama in any language, is "Le Jeu d'Adam (The Play of Adam)". In the play Paradise (The Garden of Eden) is depicted with trees with fruit hanging from them.
In German lands this was generally fir trees. By the 1400s the German tradition became to put one of these 'paradise trees' (often hung with unconsecrated wafers) in the house on December 24th, because that is the Feast Day of Adam & Eve. At the same time there was also a Christmas Pyramid prepared for the celebration of Christmas - a wood triangle with shelves holding Christmas figurines & candles and decorated with greens & a star. Over the years the two traditions merged, then evolved in Germany and other countries to give us the Christmas tree as we know it.
Those who know me know that I don't care much about Christmas trees. But I do care about history and truth. (And on that note, the accompanying photo is just for fun.)
