Rittenhouse Needlepoint

Full service, needlepoint store featuring finishers and custom painters on staff.

Thanks to all of you, we are busy busy busy! It’s time to add to our teams. We have new roles open in almost every department.

You don’t have to be a needlepoint or cross stitch expert, but you should have some experience with needlepoint, cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, crochet, spinning, or weaving, and be excited to learn more.

The most important thing is that you are a creative, bright, friendly, customer-focused person with lots of hustle! (Like we said, we are busy!)

These are in-person, in-house (not contractor/freelance) roles that can’t be done remotely, so we’re looking for candidates in the Philadelphia area.

Email resumes to [email protected] for more information.

The Doolittle Stitchery trunkshow is here!
Enjoy 20% Off In Stock Canvases

This needlepoint canvas line by artist Elizabeth Nagle is best known for outdoorsy ski and seaside themed designs, but there is a lot more to explore!

We love this line for the sense of movement and fun Elizabeth captures in her designs. Doolittle Stitchery is a great line for beginners, but more advanced stitchers will also enjoy adding special touches to the designs with fancy stitches and thread.

Stitch up your family’s favorite lakeside getaway spot, give yourself a “Happy Camper” merit badge, make your Pisces friend a pilllow!

Fine print: For a limited time. Discount applies automatically in cart, no code necessary. Good on in stock canvases from Doolittle Stitchery, not good on special / pre-orders.

We’re doing things a bit differently this year.

Instead of a Christmas in July promotion on stocking finishing, we’re giving you 20% off on all Christmas and Hanukkah needlepoint canvases, cross stitch patterns, and even a few kits!

For a limited time only!

This is a great time to pick up gifts, and still have time to stitch and finish them for the holidays.

Our finishing deadline for Christmas is mid October.

The crawl runs June 19th – 23rd, but please note that our shop will be closed on the 19th in observance of Juneteeth. We’ll be open normal hours June 20th-23rd.

We couldn’t relaunch our house line of needlepoint canvases and cross stitch patterns without new Philly designs! Canvases will arrive in a fee weeks and cross stitch patterns will follow shortly after.

Pre-order is open now on needlepoint canvases. Link in bio.

Here are new designs and Philly fun facts!

• Just down the block from Rittenhouse Needlepoint, Reading Terminal Market is one of the most popular attractions in the city. Opened in 1893, the market is filled with great food vendors and is always bustling with customers.
• Philly’s unique pretzel is doughier and softer than the standard soft pretzel, and has a unique elongated shape. It is made in rows of several pretzels baked together that are pulled apart when finished. Philadelphians are said to eat twelve times the national average of pretzels annually!
• Philadelphia has one of the nation’s largest collections of public art with over 1500 statues and monuments. This sweet little goat lives in our shop’s namesake, Rittenhouse Square. He has been so popular, especially with children who pet him, that he had to be recast in 2018. Originally made by Albert Laessle in 1914.
• Also found in Rittenhouse Square, Duck Girl feeds one of her ducks in the middle of a fountain. Paul Manship, 1911.
• Friendship Gate is located near our shop in Philadelphia’s Chinatown. Sabrina Soong, 1984.
• This statue of William Penn can be found at the top of Philadelphia’s City Hall, just a few blocks from our shop. Alexander Milne Calder, 1892.
• Reading Terminal Market’s beloved Pig, Philbert, was made by Eric Berg in 1995. It serves as a giant piggy bank for donations to several Philly food banks.
• This statue of Joan of Arc made by Emmanuel Frémiet in 1890 wasn’t given its gilt finish until 1959.
• Since the creation of South Philly’s outdoor Italian Market in the 1880s, vendors have used burning barrels to keep business booming in the winter. The image has come to symbolize South Philly in part due to burn barrels shown in the movie “Rocky”.
• Rittenhouse Square has hosted farmers markets for decades, and you can still find flower markets popping up every Saturday.

In case you missed it, a host of new fabrics have just arrived ranging from bright and bold to classically elegant, including designs from Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink, William Morris, and more. In a nice medium weight cotton, they can be used in a wide variety of projects.

Add these new fabrics to your needlework finishing at no additional cost. Just include the pattern name on your finishing form.

Or purchase these fabrics in full yards, half yards, or fat quarters for use in your own projects.

Our finishing options continue to grow! We have more fabrics coming soon in classics like ginghams, swiss dots, and ticking stripes. Our experienced, in-house finishing team can turnaround almost all projects in 4-6 weeks.

Pre-orders are open now and designs will ship in 4-6 weeks. Link in bio.

Cross stitch charts are in the works and will launch next month, so stay tuned.

We have lots to share, but let’s kick off with what has been the early favorite in pre-orders: the Iconic Eyewear collection. These two-sided eyeglass cases feature the eyewear of musicians, fashionistas, and other favorite characters on one side, and a pattern on the other side inspired by imagery associated with them. We hope you’ll find one of your favorites in this bunch, but if not, let us know who you think should be added to the collection next!

The Philadelphia Flower Show may be drawing to a close, but you can keep the flower fun going with our flower needlepoint kits and fresh finds from The Fabric Workshop and Museum.

For our flower kits, we referenced the tradition of Victorian Floriography which was particularly popular in the mid 1800s. Floriography is a way of communicating through flowers that assigns meanings to the flowers and colors used. For example, a sunflower would have been used to express loyalty, longevity, and adoration. Explore them all!

FWM has an incredible history of pattern and printmaking, nurturing both established and up-and-coming artists in a variety of mediums, as well as extensive work in the community. Learn more about our amazing neighbor - click through the link in the bio. Come by to see their current show by the artist Risa Puno, then visit us after.

Consider becoming a FWM member and enjoy discounts at other museums as well as at our shop. Stay tuned for more events and partnerships between The Fabric Workshop and Museum and Rittenhouse Needlepoint coming soon.

They had us at cheese…and butter and mustard! We are happy to add Stitch Style to the shop.
So many great canvases, but the first thing that caught our eye were their 3D cheeses. I mean, who doesn’t need a 3D needlepointed wedge of cheese?

Of course, they have lots of other great styles including quirky Christmas dinosaurs, sweet pink designs from Emily Quigley, and so much more.

As a cherry on top, many of their canvases come with great stitch guides. Some of the stitch examples are shown here.
