A large amount of you all know Lauren from our Portland @themockingbirdpdx cart. Lauren has been by my side since day 1 of our first food cart, and has proven time & time again to be such a great asset to both MB & HGS. So much so, that we have big plans with expansions, and within the next few years she has the option to take over and run the current Lombard location. So be nice to her, & don’t scare her away 😹😋

I’m Lauren (she/her). I’m the general manager here at HGS. I am super passionate about veganism and animal rights and I absolutely love food and cooking. I have been vegan for a little over 4 years but I haven’t eaten meat in 10 years. I have a dog who’s my entire world, and I also have a cat and 3 rescue rabbits. My life revolves around my babies. I love reading, cheesy dating shows, and going to metal shows. Im thankful everyday to be able to spread the vegan word by serving up great vegan bbq with our kick ass team here and I’ve loved building relationships with all of our amazing new customers. It’s time for another team member introduction ❤️❤️ Meet Mars! Mars opens the kitchen every morning and is such a great addition to our team. They really know how to sling it behind the line, they’re always there to help when we need it, and we are just so lucky to have them as part of the team. ☺️ About me: Hi y’all! My name is Mars and I’m a queer nonbinary cook with a passion for both vegan and barbecue food 💖 I’ve spent the last two years training under another vegan barbecue chef and am so excited to bring everything I’ve learned to the kitchen at Homegrown Smoker. When I’m not working I’m either cooking for folks in my community, painting, playing music, or spending time with my loved ones. I’m so excited to be here and I can’t wait to make an amazing meal for each and every customer!

As he states below, he has both history working at HGS, then myself for a different company, and now he’s back with the two combined. 🤪 Funny how things work, but we love Ned and I’m so happy to have him back! He definitely slays in the kitchen 😁 Hi, I'm Nedrick, I'm a Palauan/American born and raised in Portland. I went to school focused on biology and became a cancer researcher where my compassion for animals grew as I worked alongside a vet. I became vegan just over 9 years ago and switched to career tracks to cook shortly thereafter. I worked at HGS for a few years, then moved to Sharks Cove, where I met Kayla and now I'm back at Homegrown again working with Kayla. I'm very excited to be back for this exciting new chapter of Homegrown Smoker!

Nikki previously worked for HGS before I took over the restaurant, so a lot of you may already know her. 😊 She brings such great energy to work every single day and I am so happy she is back with us as we venture into our new journey. Word from Nikki: Hi! My name is Nikki 😁 I’m from Chicago but have lived in PDX for 8+ years. I’ve been vegetarian for over 15 years, vegan for over 12 years. I have 2 dogs & 3 cats who are my entire world. When I’m not bartending, I’m out hiking with my fiancé & our dogs, going to punk shows with friends, gardening in our backyard or cooking. I LOVE meeting new people & I live for good conversations/ human connection- so if you stop by Homegrown Smoker, be sure to get a drink/non alcoholic drink from me and say hi! Do good, be kind.
