Eyeing that perfect vacation rental for your next group trip? Watch out for fake listings, even on major vacation rental sites.
Scammers create fake rental sites and make up listings for rentals that donāt exist. They may try to contact you outside of the rental site and ask you to pay them directly through a digital payment, wire transfer, or gift card. When the scammer disappears, you have no place to move into and youāre out of money.
Help protect yourself with these tips:
šMost major vacation rental sites offer purchase protections, but only if you pay and communicate with the owners through the site.
š Avoid paying for application fees, deposits, first monthās rent or vacation charges through digital payments like ZelleĀ® or wire transfers since thatās like sending cash. Once you send it, you may not be able to get your money back.
š Donāt send payments for properties you havenāt seen, or to a person youāve never met. Only use ZelleĀ® to send money to recipients you know and trust.

We all love a great deal, but think twice before buying discounted items through online ads.
If a discount seems too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers will often use ads to lure you in with deep discounts. They may even say they need a deposit to secure the item and ask for a digital payment like ZelleĀ®.
If you are purchasing goods, consider using a payment option that offers purchase protection.
šNeither ZelleĀ® nor Chase provides purchase protection if you use ZelleĀ® to buy something and then the item does not arrive, appears damaged, or itās not as described.
š Only use ZelleĀ® to send money to recipients you know and trust.
š ZelleĀ® is not intended for purchase of goods from retailers, online marketplaces or through social media posts.

ā ļø Youāre being told that you need to send a deposit right away, usually through a wire transfer.
ā ļø You canāt see the property or meet the landlord before sending money.
ā ļø The landlord isnāt concerned about having the completed application or doing a credit check prior to receiving the deposit.
To help protect yourself, try to see properties in person and be cautious when sending money through wire transfers. Once you send it, you probably canāt get it back.
