Wow what a neat historical tidbit

Knitting is a skill set Western culture folks first got from various peoples in the what was known as the Fertile Crescent. Knitting has been around possibly for more than two thousand years. The simple concept of taking a line of thread or yarn and manipulating it with a pair of sticks is an Idea of amazing simplicity. Honestly, when I think on it, if one didn’t have a loom to hand, what would be the next most obvious method of creating a textile?
This pair of mitts were obviously created by using tiny needles, with very fine blue silken yarns. By the 18th century when these mitts were made the art and craft of knitting was long established and there were many highly skilled people in Europe who could replicate the things that had previously been the province of other countries and other peoples.
These mitts likely would have been used at home, and most commonly in the evening, when even well lit homes suffered the chill of night. They are obviously the effort of professionals, due to the delicacy and intricacy of the design. The presence of the silver lace edge and the embroidered interior means that these were for a person of wealth and station.
