Pikey's Acting Troupe is excited to announce auditions for their Fall 2024 season production of the spoken-play August Snow by Reynolds Price, directed by Elathan Bowling! Auditions are open to ALL UPIKE STUDENTS!

Auditions will be held in the Record Memorial Bldg., Room 303 on April 25th @ 11:00-1:30 P.M. and April 26th @ 6:00-7:30 P.M. Sides from the show will be provided.

Little Shop of Horrors makes yet another successful show as part of UPIKE Theatre’s comeback, and our cast, crew, orchestra, and artistic team has worked incredibly hard the last few months to put together a show that as wonderful as this one.

We would like to thank all of our patrons, donators, and YOU for making it all possible!

✨🌿LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS CAST SPOTLIGHT! 🌿✨

Amanda Tharp will be on stage TONIGHT as Chiffon, part of the fabulous "Greek Chorus" trio in UPIKE Theatre's production of Little Shop of Horrors! Amanda is a sophomore at the University of Pikeville. She is studying Film and Media with a minor in Art and is a member of the UPike Choir and Select Choir. Amanda has been in four production at the University of Pikeville, including You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and Angel Street.

Amanda has enjoyed learning and experiencing the process of how costumes come together in a theatrical setting, and is looking forward to seeing the audience's reaction to the ending of the show!

✨🌿LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS CAST SPOTLIGHT! 🌿✨

AllenaMae Dodd is hitting the stage this weekend as Crystal, part of the iconic "Greek Chorus" trio in UPIKE Theatre's production of Little Shop of Horrors! AllenaMae is a music major at UPIKE in Vocal and Piano Performance, originally hailing from Seattle, Washington. She has most recently been seen in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown as Snoopy.

AllenaMae has loved forming strong and long-lasting friendships with everyone in the cast throughout rehearsal, and she's most excited for everyone to see the hard work of our cast and puppeteers come to fruition!

✨🌿LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS CAST SPOTLIGHT!🌿✨

Elathan Bowling will be starring as Skid Row's flailing florist, Mr. Mushnik, in UPIKE Theatre's production of Little Shop of Horrors this weekend! Elathan is a junior at UPIKE, studying music and theatre, and has an extensive theatrical background, performing, directing, and working as crew for many theatre companies all over Eastern Kentucky, such as Artists' Collaborative Theatre and The Appalachian Center for the Arts. He is also the founder of Pikey’s Acting Troupe. He directed Pikey’s Acting Troupe’s first ever student-led musical production, Calvin Berger, last fall.

Elathan has enjoyed seeing his castmates learn new skills and adapt to a show that has several unique aspects to it, such as puppetry. He can't wait to perform "Mushnik & Son" alongside his long-time friend and co-star, Ethan Hopson!

✨🌿LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS CAST SPOTLIGHT!🌿✨

Zoe Howard is will be making her UPIKE Theatre debut as Ronette in the "Greek Chorus" trio this weekend in Little Shop of Horrors! Zoe is a sophomore at University of Pikeville with plans to work in the music education field after she graduates. As well as being part of several UPIKE Music ensembles, she has been the leader of her all-male band called Yellow Line. They perform Appalachian Folk-Rock originals that she wrote while traveling from venues to festival.

Zoe's favorite part of being a part of this production has been learning the choreography and getting to express herself through dance! She's looking forward to the audience getting to see the trio move the story along and seeing reactions to the different plant puppets!

🌿✨LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS CAST SPOTLIGHTS! ✨🌿

Amy Smallwood will be the voice of the strange, interesting, and infamous Audrey II in UPIKE Theatre's production of Little Shop of Horrors! She is a UPIKE student working towards her Bachelors of Performing Arts with a Music Emphasis degree. Amy has been involved with theatre for over 7 years, in several UPIKE Theatre and Artists' Collaborative Theatre productions.

Being voice behind the plant, Amy has enjoyed watching our spectacular puppeteers bring Audrey II to life, and can't wait for the audience to experience the number "Feed Me (Git It!)"

UPIKE Performing Arts welcomes you to their first annual Audition Day!

The University of Pikeville has a long history of defying expectations. No matter how you may have viewed yourself, the Appalachian community or the world before setting foot on our campus, we will encourage, inspire or even dare you to believe in a whole new realm of possibilities.

Here, in the heart of Central Appalachia, you’ll find beautiful mountains, rich culture and lots of friendly people. This is where we live, learn and strive to serve. This is the place where you’ll go from who you are, to who you’ll become.

The UPIKE Performing Arts program offers a unique, individualized course of study in the areas of vocal education, instrumental education, and the theatrical arts. With a range of ensembles from distinct musical genres and immersive theatre experience, UPIKE Performing Arts not only gives students the opportunity to perform, but to apply valuable life skills such as discipline, collaboration amongst peers, and arts advocacy.

To participate, reserve your appointment and please arrive at your slotted time on March 16th, 2024, with the selected requirements prepared for your chosen area of study (ALL areas can be chosen):

Band:
- Performing Arts Majors/minors:
2 contrasting prepared pieces of any genre (2 minutes long minimum) on their instrument(s) of choice. The auditioner will be asked to play two major/minor scales at random and have their chromatic scale ready.

- Performing Arts Non majors/minors (scholarship only):
1 prepared piece (2 minutes long minimum). The auditioner will be asked to play 1 major/minor scale at random and have their chromatic scale ready.

Vocal:
- Performing Arts Majors/minors:
Vocalist will be asked to do vocal warm up exercises led by Dr. Eric Rutherford to test range. 2 contrasting prepared pieces of any genre. A basic sight-reading exercise will be held with music selected by Dr. Eric Rutherford.
- Performing Arts Non majors/minors (scholarship only): Vocalists will be asked to do vocal warm up exercises led by Dr. Eric Rutherford to test range. 1 prepared piece of any genre.

Theatre:
- One 60-second monologue (comedic or dramatic) prepared from memory.
- Optional, for students interested in musical theatre: one 21-32 bar cut of any musical theatre selection of the auditioner's choosing.

Thank you to all of our patrons and supporters for a wonderful opening night of Angel Street! The cast was treated to a special surprise last night, as a member of the Peach Orchard Players of Pikeville College was in attendance! Kathy Petot played the role of Mrs. Manningham in the 1971 production of Angel Street! It was a blessing to all to honor the UPIKE Performing Arts program’s tradition and legacy.

There’s still ONE MORE CHANCE to catch Angel Street TONIGHT! Doors will open for seating of our closing show at 6:30 P.M. and the show will begin at 7:00 P.M. @ The Appalachian Center for the Arts in downtown Pikeville. A $5 donation to UPIKE Theatre is suggested.

Opening night is January 19th at The Appalachian Center for the Arts at 7:00 P.M. with the closing performance taking place the following day at the same time. Doors will open at 6:30 P.M.
