Enfleurage of Magnolia:

I’ve been working with Magnolia quite a bit over the last several years. This grand southern flowering tree evokes joyous memories of childhood, especially climbing my granny Lucy‘s enormous magnolia tree in her backyard. The smell of the flowers is intoxicating, and my own experience with this creamy white delight is heart opening, allowing unconditional love and acceptance, as if connecting through a spiritual realm. I find great peace, expansion, and joy all at once.

Enfleurage is an ages old perfumery technique used to extract essential oils from delicate flowers. The process, although perfected and popularized in 18th century France, has deep roots in ancient Egypt, and is particularly suited for flowers that are too fragile for more intensive extraction methods such as distillation. I tend to follow the cold enfleurage process, using plant or animal fats, and foraging, and replacing flower petals every couple days until I reach a saturation point…determined by both nose and intuition. Though enfleurage is a somewhat labor-intensive and time-consuming process, it produces a high quality pomade with a true, pure representation of the flowers fragrance. I truly enjoy every aspect of this ancient art form. 🏺

Pictured here is the magnolia enfleurage I’m working on, using a pure plant base. I started on May’s new moon🌚and have already processed 15 pressings…feeling strongly to “keep pressing on”.✨

I’m impressed by the way this one settles in. It’s warming, grounding, sensual, and feels of poetry, read in a dimly lit room. 🕯Although it’s a proprietary blend of many delights...included are notes of: to***co, opoponax, myrrh, earl grey, ravensara, black cardamom, & vanilla.
