Standing FIRM
STANDING FIRM empowers employers to recognize & respond
to workplace effects of partner violence.
Survivors and their children need Gov. Shapiro, Sen. Pittman, Rep. Bradford, Sen. Martin, and Rep. Harris to get the $8 million increase in funding for domestic violence services over the finish line. In these final moments, those who have experienced domestic violence cannot be used as bargaining chips. Investing in DV services will save lives. Failing to do so will cost far more than the $8 million investment we are asking for.
BREAKING: NNEDV rejects the Supreme Court's decision, which will allow communities to arrest and fine homeless people (including homeless domestic violence survivors) for sleeping outside.
Housing is extremely limited for survivors, often forcing them to make impossible and unfair decisions between sleeping outside or suffering continued violence. Arresting and fining them for sleeping outside is cruel, plain and simple.

Great news from the U.S. Supreme Court! This morning, they came to an 8-1 decision in U.S. v. Rahimi that upholds a federal law that prevents those with domestic violence restraining orders from having fi****ms. This decision also fortifies Pennsylvania’s Act 79 of 2018, which removes guns from abusers. Today's ruling highlights the importance of certain gun safety laws and reinforces efforts to protect victims by disarming dangerous individuals.
Our president/CEO, Nicole Molinaro said, "Today’s Rahimi decision was welcomed by domestic violence survivors and those who advocate for them. Survivors and advocates know all too well that a gun in the hands of an abuser is a matter of life and death. Today, the Supreme Court chose life; specifically, the lives of those experiencing domestic violence."
When most people think of domestic violence, they may picture a stereotypical heterosexual relationship. However, domestic violence can affect anyone, no matter their background, gender, sexuality, or age. It’s important to correct harmful myths like this in order to raise awareness about the reality of domestic violence.

Though WC&S is honored and grateful to celebrate 50 years of service to survivors in our community, we must also remember those who sadly ended up not being able to leave their situation. On April 11, we will be hosting a candlelight vigil to honor those who have lost their lives to intimate partner violence. If you are able to attend, we're asking that you wear purple to bring attention to domestic violence awareness.
WC&S extends a heartfelt invitation to individuals who wish to commemorate the lives of their loved ones, friends, or colleagues lost to IPV homicides. To include the name of a victim in the event program, particularly for cases predating 2007 when records of IPV homicides did not always include victims' names, please email [email protected].
