Who says you need hair to be beautiful? ❤️
It's still very hot out. Keep your pets safe by keeping them indoors in this weather 🌞🔥🥵
⚠️ Weather alert for this week ⚠️
Please do not take your pets for walks or leave them outside for long periods of time this week as it is suppose to be incredibly hot and humid.
Dogs body temperatures are already high at 100-102.5 degrees normally.
Heat stroke can occur very quickly and is a medical emergency. Make sure your pets have plenty of water and a cool place inside to lay.
The asphalt and concrete can burn dogs paw pads. If it is too hot for a human to walk barefoot, then it's too hot for pets feet too 🥵🥵🌞🔥
Who doesn't love kitten cuddles??? Vet tech Rachael got some good cuddles from Momo the kitten ❤️

Sometimes our doctors and team members wake up at 3 am thinking about your pet. There is no extra charge for this. 🐾❤️🩹
Being in the veterinary profession is physically and emotionally demanding, leading to high rates of depression, compassion fatigue/burnout, and anxiety. During always be kind to your veterinary team and thank them for what they do. Chances are, they've cared for and thought about your pet more often than you can imagine. 🐾
We celebrate the success of our graduating student, Anne, who has been an integral part of our team and has now been accepted to veterinary school. We applaud her achievements and look forward to her future contributions in the field of veterinary medicine.

Hello! My name is Anne and I have been shadowing at the Shadyside location since last summer. I just graduated from the University of Pittsburgh this spring with a major in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry. I decided that I wanted to become a veterinarian during my sophomore year after I began missing my pets back at home and started getting experience working with animals at the local shelter. I fell in love with the idea of being able to work with both animals and people as well as being able to practice all types of medicine such as general medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, and much more. I recently just got accepted into veterinary school at the University of Illinois and am so excited to go this fall! I am very thankful for everything team Shadyside has taught me and am super happy to start working for them this summer!
We extend a warm welcome to Dr. Olivia Wilson, who will be joining our practice as a full-time associate on May 7th. Her addition to our Shadyside office further enhances our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. We look forward to her contributions and invite you to join us in welcoming her to our team.
Hi, I'm Dr. Olivia Wilson! Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I earned my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University and practiced in Portland, Oregon for 10 years before settling in Pittsburgh with my husband, young son, and sweet senior dog Lilly. Dentistry, senior pet care and educating on preventative care are particular interests of mine. I find great value in building long-lasting relationships with pet owners. I can't wait to meet you and collaborate to provide the best care for your four-legged family members!
The joy of veterinary medicine lies in witnessing the growth and maturation of our animal friends. Being part of their journey is truly gratifying.
Lucas- from first visit until now ♥️
Peanut butter mustache and all :-)
Norman, you had us at hello.
We think it's safe to say Pepper fell in love with Dr. Hutchinson today ❤️
When we asked Luna how she liked her fear free exam with Dr. Hutchinson, she rolled to her side and asked for belly rubs ❤️
PetVet365 Shadyside will be closed for Easter. If you have an emergency please reach out to our local emergency rooms.
We will be open Saturday, March 30th (9 am- 1 pm) and for normal business hours the week after Easter Sunday.
As Easter approaches, it is important to remember the potential danger that Easter lilies pose to cats. Please read below for more information.
Do you have a cat in your household? Please use EXTREME caution when bringing in flowers, bouquets, and new plants into your cat-friendly household. Easter lilies are extremely poisonous to cats, and just 1-2 leaves (or even the pollen) can kill a cat! Even small ingestions can result in severe kidney failure.
Sources of poisoning: Many plants of the Lilium and Hemerocallis species are very poisoning. Commonly known as the Tiger, Day, Asiatic, Easter, or Japanese Show lily, these plants result in severe acute kidney failure.
Mechanism of action: The exact toxin has not been identified, but is known to be water soluble. All parts of the plant – the leaf, pollen, stem, flower are considered poisonous. Kidney damage (specifically, renal tubular necrosis) occurs within 24-72 hours of ingestion.
Common signs of poisoning: Signs of poisoning often develop within 6-12 hours of exposure. Early signs include vomiting, inappetance, lethargy, and dehydration. Untreated, signs worsen as acute kidney failure develops, and signs of not urinating or urinating too frequently, not drinking or excessive thirst, and inflammation of the pancreas may be seen with lily poisoning. Rarer signs include walking drunk, disorientation, tremors, and even seizures.
Antidote and treatment: There is not antidote for lily poisoning. That said, prompt veterinary attention is necessary. The sooner you bring in your cat, the better and more efficiently your veterinarian can treat the poisoning. Decontamination (like inducing vomiting and giving drugs like activated charcoal to bind the poison in the stomach and intestines) are imperative in the early toxic stage, while aggressive intravenous fluid therapy, kidney function monitoring tests, and supportive care can greatly improve the prognosis. IV fluids need to be started, ideally, within 18 hours for the best prognosis for your cat.
Threat: Just 2-3 leaves, or even the pollen groomed off the fur, can result in poisoning in a cat. If untreated, acute kidney failure will develop and be fatal. Thankfully, lily poisoning doesn’t cause kidney failure in dogs, but if a large amount is ingested, it can result in some gastrointestinal signs in our canine friends.
What about other types of lilies? Other types of lilies like Peace, Peruvian, and Calla lilies don’t cause deadly kidney failure, but they also can be mildly poisonous too, as they contain oxalate crystals which result in tissue irritation to the mouth, tongue, pharynx, and esophagus – resulting in minor drooling. If your cat is seen consuming any part of a lily, bring your cat (and the plant) immediately to a veterinarian for medical care.
We marked Team Shadyside's first birthday by going to “Escape the Room “ where we applied outstanding group dynamics once more while tackling different puzzles including cryptic clues leading up towards last frightening challenge that tested even ourselves but ultimately triumphed with only 6minutes to spare!
Meet Troll ♥️
Troll’s parents recognize the importance of dental health and Troll was here today for a dental cleaning.
Periodontal disease and dental disease is a very common occurrence for dogs and cats. Most show signs as early as 2-3 years old. Early prevention and intervention are critical to keep their mouths healthy. Routine dentistry is performed at our hospital every week!
It’s one of the most important aspects of veterinary medicine.
If your pet has bad breath, abnormal chewing, drooling or dropping of food, reduced appetite or pain, and any bleeding or swelling near the mouth- reach out to us so we may assess their needs.

Sometimes we all need a little “puppy therapy”. Meet Blanca ♥️
Meatball loved his check up today with Dr. Resek; as long as the cherrios kept coming ❤️
It doesn't matter how big you get, everyone needs a teddy bear for comfort. Mopsy was spayed yesterday but was very brave thanks to her teddy ❤️
On our one-year anniversary, we at Team Shadyside extend our heartfelt appreciation to the community for embracing us with open arms. We have been fortunate enough to connect with numerous remarkable pets and their owners, and we look forward to maintaining these relationships in the future.
Everyone meet Battie! (The kitty lol) Battie is a very interesting case. She was born with no eyes, but that doesn't stop her. She loves playing with her brother Sam. Battie and Sam were spayed and neutered and did great! Pitt pre-veterinary student Anne is our Chief Recovery Snuggler!
