No animation deformity here!! How to prevent animation deformity…have the patient smile and talk every few minutes during your their injections. Asking the patient to smile and talk will allow you to see abnormalities that you might not notice in a relaxed state.

Another important tip to help easily identify filler issues such as abnormalities and asymmetries, choose the right numbing method. I use numbing cream! I know this may be a sore point for some injectors that do dental blocks but have you ever tried smiling, talking or drinking water after you’ve been numbed at the dentist?! 🫤🤤🥴

What is animation deformity?

Animation deformity with lip filler refers to an irregular or unnatural appearance of the lips that becomes noticeable during facial movements, such as talking or smiling. This can occur if the filler is not distributed evenly or if it migrates (I use that term loosely) from the intended area. In some cases, the filler might create an unnatural bulge or asymmetry when the lips move, making the lip shape look distorted. Proper technique and skill from your injector can help minimize the risk of animation deformity.

Small enhancements to balance the ratio. This client wanted close to a 1:1 ratio. (Upper and lower the same size). Other than some minor bruising and swelling I think we achieved just that.
After receiving lip filler, it’s common to experience some bruising and swelling. Bruising typically fades within a week, while swelling usually subsides within a few days. Remember to plan your appointments accordingly. No big events within 2 weeks of filler or tox is recommended.

What is one thing holding you back from getting lip filler

A snatched jawline starts with a good chin. Chin projection helps to elongate the jawline creating a long, lean appearance.

Lip Rehab: In this case, lip rehab refers to dissolving misplaced filler to restore the integrity of the natural anatomical features of the lip.

It was a bit of a journey but we made it!
This lovely client had her lips filled with Juvederm several times by another provider. Unfortunately, I was unable to achieve the goal because of the amount and type of filler used prior. It took 4 sessions of dissolving before I was able to refill her lips. The goal was to achieve a crisper border with a more appropriate shape.
I was able to achieve that goal using the right filler for her lip tissue. 💉

🪢 Elasticity- The ability of a gel to “spring back” to its original shape after being deformed.

🌊 Viscosity-The flow characteristics of a gel; used to define gel thickness.

🪢🌊Viscoelastic- A term used to describe HA gels which possess both elastic and viscous properties.

💉G’- Refers to the viscosity and elasticity of the product. It is a rating that indicates how runny and pliable a filler is.

⛓️Crosslinking- HA filler is often chemically cross-linked by 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl
ether (BDDE) for enhanced mechanical properties and biostability.

⛓️‍💥Cohesivity- The resistance to vertical compression/stretching once it is injected and subjected to forces. HA cohesion is influenced by HA concentration and the crosslinking

Is there anything you find particularly challenging when it comes to lip filler?

Lip filler is an art that is very difficult to master. Some of the things I have found helpful are understanding the tissue, respecting the anatomy and not to challenge the tissue or musculature too much (overfilling or over toxing ) or too often.

So what makes a lip “difficult”?

1. “M” shaped lips. A “m” shaped lip is characterized by a strong center and with weak lateral volume. Sometimes the lip does exactly what I want and other times, it simply does not. Why? Tissue and or muscles.

2. Very loose lip tissue. Loose lips are characterized by a lip that has a lot of space to fill. Loose lips are tough because they cannot handle most fillers. They need a very soft filler and usually a lot of it.

3. Very tight lip tissue. Tight lips are characterized by either dense tissue or strong adherence to the structures below. A lip that has tight tissue benefits from a soft filler. Unfortunately, a soft filler doesn’t always achieve the desired volume or shape the client has envisioned.

4. Discoloration. Discoloration is characterized by the a loss of color around the lip border. Discoloration causes the lip to look asymmetrical, no amount of filler can correct discoloration. 1 great option is lip blushing. I have some really good recommendations in Allentown and surrounding area and is Scranton and the surrounding area.

5. Inversion due to the levator muscles. This is one of those things that I don’t believe anyone has mastered. There are several levators (muscles) of the mouth area. When one, or are all of them are very strong you can have inversion with smiling or at rest. Trying to fight that with filler is often a battle even the best injectors lose.

Understanding some of these basic features of a lip will definitely help manage expectations with your client.

Instead, let’s prioritize honesty, respect and let’s work together for the improvement of our profession and our clients. It can be a very rewarding experience when you allow it to be.

And remember, what goes around comes around. You don’t have to call anyone out, or give them the same energy. Maintain YOUR integrity and you’ll be fine! 💕

Filler isn’t the culprit….

A skilled injector can enhance your features subtly, providing natural-looking results that complement your age. On the other hand, some injectors might deliver unsatisfactory outcomes, potentially impacting your appearance negatively making you look older or distorted.

Choosing the right injector makes all the difference. How do you choose the right injector for you? My previous posts lists some tips and suggestions for finding the right injector for you!

1. Because they are the easiest to capture
2. The results are immediate and usually pretty significant

Here are a few tips to help you choose the right provider for you. 🤍

⚪️Credentials and Qualifications:
Ensure the injector is a licensed medical professional with specialized training in aesthetic procedures. In Pennsylvania, nurses, NP’s, PA’s, MD’s, DO’s, plastic surgeons and dentists can perform injectable treatments. 🔸ART isn’t quantified by how high of a degree you hold. Some of the best injectors I know are nurses and NP’s.
⚪️Experience and Expertise:
Look for someone with a proven track record and extensive experience in performing the specific injectable treatment you’re interested in. Always look at their portfolio. Social media has made it very easy to showcase a providers work. If you see more memes or dancing videos than before and after pictures, be wary.
⚪️Safety and Cleanliness:
Choose a clinic or practice that adheres to strict safety protocols and maintains a clean and sterile environment to minimize the risk of complications or infections.
⚪️Natural Results:
Seek an injector who prioritizes achieving natural-looking results tailored to your individual facial features and aesthetic goals.
⚪️Patient Satisfaction:
Check reviews and testimonials from previous patients to gauge overall satisfaction and outcomes with the injector and their services.
⚪️Avoid price shopping:
I can’t tell you how many people have come to me after going somewhere “cheaper” saying they wish they would have just come to me in the beginning. It’s way more expensive to “fix” something you don’t like than it is to have it done right the first time.
