Zodiac’s latest move in its growth plan is to team up with Watches.com to create a one-of-a-kind Super Sea Wolf Meteorite watch. This limited edition watch is Zodiac’s first exploration into the elemental nature of time and space with a material that was forged across the universe.
The meteorite used on the dial was crafted from a genuine Muonionalusta Meteorite that spent billions of years traveling through the universe until chance pulled it into Earth’s orbit and it landed in the Norrbotten region of Sweden approximately 800,000 years ago.
When cut, the metal from the meteorite reveals one-of-a-kind patterns of iron and nickel that look distinctly extraterrestrial and uniquely modern.

Michel Herbelin is building on the success of its 2020 Newport Héritage collection with a more classically styled model but with the same 1970s retro feel.
The latest model comes in a 42mm x 42mm cushion shaped steel case with its circular porthole-style bezel decorated with exposed polished screw heads.
Michel Herbelin has used an automatic Sellita SW220-1 movement with an engraved branded oscillating weight generating power for up to 38 hours use.

Retired American football star and Good Morning America anchor Michael Strahan headed into space this past Saturday aboard Blue Origin’s third flight with passengers, and among the personal items he is taking is a prized De Bethune DB28 Kind of Blue timepiece.

The all blue watch is decorated with an arrowhead shape on its dial that could easily be confused for a Star Trek motif as seen on the uniform of Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner, a previous passenger on Blue Origin.

The watch is a limited edition of just five pieces.

Its blued titanium dial is decorated with a golden depiction of the Milky Way

Carl F. Bucherer and prestige Swiss pen maker Caran D’Ache signed on the dotted line for a collaboration across writing instruments and timepieces earlier this year, promising their precision products will help “celebrate life’s signature moments”.

The first fruits of the collaboration are a limited edition (and eco-friendly) travel pouch containing a Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Signature watch and a Caran d’Ache Signature roller ball pen.
The Carl F. Bucherer Manero Flyback Signature has graphite gray chronograph sub dials on a silvered dial with coloured hour markers giving a nod to a Caran d’Ache pencil set.
It comes with two NATO straps in a 43mm steel case housing the CFB 1970 automatic caliber with a power reserve of 42 hours.

Caran d’Ache’s Signature pen has a guillochage decorated rhodium- and silver-coated with hand-lacquered multicoloured triangles picking up details from the watch’s face.

Meistersinger is giving an outer space-eye-view of our rock in its latest watch, the Planet Earth, created to support the World Wide Fund for Nature, one of the world’s leading nature conservation organizations.
Meistersinger aims is to send a message that people need to work towards a sustainable economy and the considerate use of our planet’s resources.
Meistersinger Planet Earth is based on the Perigraph watch with its circular open date disk and hours/minutes track surrounding the earth in the jet-black of space an astronaut would see looking back at their home planet.
The watch uses Sellita’s SW400 in a 43mm case on display through a glass case back decorated with the WWF logo.

Christopher Ward is using materials for the straps as well as turning granules from the material into an injectable plastic used to decorate the C60’s case back and crown.
trains and pays fishermen across Asia and The Philippines to collect, sort, process and transport ocean-bound plastic that is converted into reusable raw material.
Last year the company created a one-off strap for a limited edition C60 BLUE that raised money for the Blue Marine Foundation, a charity dedicated to restoring the ocean to health by addressing over-fishing.
“The fantastic success of that watch taught us two important things: our team is inspired by environmental concerns, and our customers want to see us do more with eco materials”,

The WoS pop-up is the first in the UK to display a brand-new Serpenti Tubogas watch in steel with black lacquered dial.
Quite a unique watch with the band resembling a serpent's body and the watch face/case being the head of the snake.

Bulova’s contribution to the Space Race began much earlier than 1971.
Bulova has a rich and storied history with NASA as part of 46 space missions and a critical asset to the US space program from the 1950s to the 1970s.
The American company was first contacted by NASA in the 1950s because of its proven expertise in engineering and timekeeping and worked on missions for the next three decades.
Over the years, NASA utilized Bulova’s innovative Accutron tuning fork movement, allowing for watches, instrumental panel clocks and timekeeping mechanisms.
Crafted specifically for astronomical conditions — allowing it to perform flawlessly under extreme pressures, changing atmospheric conditions, fluctuating temperatures and gravitational shifts — the Lunar Pilot watch was used in space to track time so that no one ran out of oxygen, water or battery power in the portable life-support-system backpack.
It was also used to back up the on-board timers for the critical reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere.
Bulova’s 50th Anniversary Lunar Pilot Limited Edition watch is a modern replica of the original timepiece that was worn on the moon by Commander Scott, updated with a special 45mm titanium grade-5 case and gold-tone accents and pushers.
It uses a proprietary and highly accurate quartz movement operating at a frequency of 262 kHz.
It uses the original Bulova logo and dial layout with blue sapphire crystal with AR coating and comes on a supple grey leather NATO strap.

With just two weeks to go until the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics, Official Timekeeper Omega has unveiled two Seamaster Aqua Terra in 18 carat yellow gold.

Omega has been the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932.

The Seamaster Aqua Terra watches come in 38mm or 41mm yellow gold cases with polished blue ceramic dials that have been laser-engraved with a pattern inspired by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem.

Both three-handers with date use the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber, which can be seen through a crystal case back decorated with the Olympic rings and the Tokyo 2020 logo.

The watches are water resistant to 150 meters.

Omega’s Seamaster has always been about versatility, a quality the brand has added to today.

The Aqua Terra now includes a feature at 6 o’clock with a Small Seconds subdial.

The 2021 collection consists of ten 38mm models, two of which are luxury editions; as well as nine new 41mm models, including four luxury versions.
Of the four mighty movements driving the Small Seconds watches, there are two luxury calibres (8803/8917), each distinguished by an 18K Sedna gold rotor and balance-bridge.

Graham is known for oversized chronographs with their dramatic crown guards mimicking the trigger guards of a fighter pilot’s cockpit.
The latest is the Swordfish with its boggle-eyed subdials jumping out of its face.
Made in bronze, they both exciting and functional; like a power tool you just can’t put down.

All the talk following the spring season of watch launches was about green, but a second color enjoying a moment in the sun was yellow, which we saw used by a number of brands to brighten our lives in what we hope is a post-pandemic year.

Meistersinger is the latest marque to adopt yellow for a fresh Perigraph, which has used the color in two concentric circles on an inner date ring of a dark blue dial and an outer minutes track.

There is also a mellow yellow strap to complete the look.

The watch has a clear case back showing the modified and decorated Sellita SW 200 automatic movement that powers the single timekeeping hand and the date ring.

** Update ; The watch previously posted sold at auction.
Pablo Picasso’s personal wristwatch has been sold by Bonhams in Paris for $268,000.00, nearly 20 times its pre-sale estimate.

05/14/2021

It took just 19 minutes at an auction in New York this week for bidding to top $103 million for Pablo Picasso’s 1932 painting Woman Sitting by a Window.

Bonhams will be hoping that this affect applies to a wristwatch that was worn by Pablo Picasso while he was painting, and bears his full name on the dial.
Conveniently, Pablo Picasso has 12 letters and are used as hour markers on the silvered dial.

Only three of the watches are known to exist. Two are owned by the Picasso Foundation, and it is a third that is up for auction at Bonhams Paris Luxury Watch Sale on Thursday 20 May.

It has a pre-sale estimate of $18,000 to $24,000, but Bonhams will be hoping the hype around Picasso drives the price up.

The watch is a manual wind steel on steel piece by little known Swiss watch producer Michael Z. Berger and made in around 1960.

Although Picasso owned watches from the likes of Jaeger-le-Coutre and Rolex, the Berger watches have additional valuable as it is understood Picasso wore them while he painted.

Vacheron Constantin has broadened its family of Overseas ultra-slim perpetual calendar watches with a boutique-only skeletonized model and a piece with a blue-lacquered dial.
Both the skeletonized and sunburst satin blue dial watches have the same display of hours, minutes, perpetual calendar a moon phase indicator, all framed by the Overseas’ hexagonal bezel.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has made what it claims to be the world’s first watch with four faces in the form of the most complicated Reverso it has ever made.

Reverso watches always have a watch head that is hinged to flip over and show two faces.

The Reverso Hybris Mechanica Calibre 185 Quadriptyque goes further by adding two more displays on the front and back of the cradle base unit.
That has created space for 11 complications including perpetual calendar, flying tourbillon, minute repeater, and indications of the synodic, draconic and anomalistic cycles.

JLC says it took six years to design and manufacture the watch.

Hublot has made a Big Bang with integrated case and bracelet in transparent sapphire for the first time.
“For such an exceptional creation, we opted for the new Automatic Tourbillon calibre with its sapphire bridges, the transparency of which creates a stunning spectacle,” says Ricardo Guadalupe, Hublot CEO.
“The act of creating an integrated case and bracelet from sapphire was, however, deemed impossible. But we were the first brand to gain perfect mastery of sapphire, industrializing it and making it reproducible in series production. It took us five years to bring our first sapphire cases to life – and almost as long for the bracelet. Producing both from sapphire and integrating them together is the pinnacle of the in-depth work undertaken by all of Hublot’s teams. We are proud to be the ones writing the first lines in this new chapter in the history of materials,” he adds.
The case is 43mm in diameter and 15.25mm thick and is water resistant to 30 meters.

Only 30 of the watches are being made, priced at $480,000.00.

Audemars Piguet’s Concept watches are rarely subtle. Like their equivalents in the motoring world, they stretch convention far beyond core collection pieces by experimenting with form, function, materials and design.

A partnership between Audemars Piguet and Marvel’s Comic Universe, announced in March, was flagged as an opportunity to create another Concept watch, leading to speculation of how radical or safe the brand would go.

The answer, out this week, is the Royal Oak Concept “Black Panther” Flying Tourbillon, and it is hard to imagine a more radical first watch from a collaborative watch.

Zenith has broken with the trend for trimmer timepieces by introducing a new 45mm case size for its 2021 Defy Extreme collection.
The character of the Defy Extreme comes from its sharp titanium case, faceted and carved like a boulder in a storm.
There are titanium and titanium with rose gold versions, both with matte-finished micro-blasted surfaces.
There are interchangeable straps in rubber and velcro or titanium bracelets.

Both models house Zenith’s El Primero 9004 automatic 1/100th of a second chronograph caliber, with separate escapements for timekeeping and the chronograph functions. It is rated with a 50 hour power reserve.

Montblanc has used an 18ct gold alloy called Lime Gold for a limited edition 1858 Split Second Chronograph. Its design and functionality is based on a 46mm Minerva military chronograph from the 1930s.
Montblanc 1858 timepieces are typically sports watches that might be worn by mountaineers and explorers.
A lime gold reference with a golden dial and green accents, worn on a green calf leather strap, is a little more dressy than usual, but retains the DNA of the Minerva military piece.

Meistersinger has produced a limited edition Astroscope in black and orange as its first novelty of 2021.

Astroscopes display the weekdays in the symbols of celestial bodies, a method that dates back around 4,000 years to the Babylonians who also used sundials to mark time with a single shadow on a dial — much as Meistersinger does today with its single hour handed watches.

Babylonians considered the number seven to be especially holy and connected with seven celestial bodies: The Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn, which came to be associated as days of the week as they are today.
Meistersinger’s new model has a dark dial that represents the night sky while the astronomical symbols are luminous orange in a nod to the sun rise.

Sometimes it takes a watchmaker a few attempts to truly perfect a watch’s look and feel.
The chronograph’s case has an elegantly integrated set of pushers and crown that take a back seat to the stunning blue and gold Résonance-patterned guilloche dial.
The movement’s diamond-blasted anthracite bridges and golden oscillating weight can be seen through a transparent case back.
The blue of the dial is achieved using a special ALD coating developed by another Czapek partner, Positive Coating, based in La-Chaux- de-Fonds.

A truly sublime piece limited to 99 pieces per dial shows the time at home on level one, while the next level presents local time – catering perfectly to the jet-setting travelers of the world when any type of Covid-induced restrictions sit firmly in the rear view mirror.
Designers say the most important and highest level is placed above the calendar window. There, at an elevated “bridge” a magnifying glass is innovatively positioned to enlarge the visibility of the small date display of the ETA-movement cal. 2671.
In this arrangement the magnifying glass resembles a monocle and underlines the creativity of Alexander Shorokhov, who has seemingly broken the status quo to build-in the magnifying glass directly into the sapphire front glass.

Accutron has reissued a watch made famous by Elvis Presley in the 1960s, who took a shine to its angular style.
The original Accutron 521 was launched in 1960 in a 14ct gold asymmetrical square case measuring just 32.8mm x 32.5mm.
It keeps the same dimensions, potentially making it more appealing to women today, but is now made in a gold toned steel case and is worn on a mesh style bracelet or brown lizard-embossed leather strap.

Patek Philippe has committed to presenting its 2021 novelties online as part of Watches and Wonders.
What Patek Philippe calls its “manchette” or cuff-style Twenty~4 collection now has a version in a 25.1mm x 30mm rose gold case and chocolate brown sunburst dial with two rows of 17 diamonds on either side.

The Tour de L’Ile astronomical and astrological watch, first created in 2005, took 10,000 hours of research and development to create a timepiece with 834 components.

It has two dials, front and back, and 16 complications: hours and minutes, seconds at 6 o’clock, hour, quarter and minute repetition on demand, tourbillon, power reserve, second time zone, moon phases, age of the moon, striking cut, perpetual calendar, equation of perpetual time, sunrise, sunset and celestial map.

De Bethune has given a split personality to its first timepiece of 2021 with a double-sided watch that can be flipped to show two very different dials.
The DB Kind of Two Tourbillon houses a highly sophisticated mechanism based on a complex system of gears and pinions arranged on the front or back of the watch that enable the hands to turn in the right direction, regardless of the dial chosen.
The dial on one side is sleek and modern with central hours and minutes hands as well as a tourbillon at 6 o’clock and the watch’s crown at the top of the case.
The crown is on the bottom once the watch is flipped along its horizontal axis. The other side has a more traditional aesthetic with a hand-guilloché central part surrounded by the numerals in a similar design to other De Bethune models such as the DB8 and DB10.

Urwerk is invoking the spirit of the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex for the latest addition to its UR-100 collection.
The prehistoric styling comes from its bronze case, which is shaped and polished to resemble a dinosaur’s hide.
Urwerk’s signature method for displaying the time is through three satellites, each of four hours, rotating on a three-armed carousel. In turn, each satellite, displaying the hour, carries a red pointer along a 60-minute scale.
The watch also displays the distance traveled by our planet every hour on a scale at 9 o’clock on the case.
A pointer shows the 555.5 km traveled by a point on the equator in a period of 20 minutes. The 20-minute scale on the other side of the dial shows the 35,742km Earth travels in its orbit around the sun in that time.

Shinola from Detroit, MI has added an exhibition case back and and small seconds subdial on a watch for the first time for its 2021 Station Agent Runwell Automatic.
The collection, which launches this week, is named after the official timekeepers on America’s early railway stations, which had the title Station Agent.
The retro watch borrows design cues from early 20th century pilot watches including its oversized crown and flieger-style lugs.
