Mark was an outstanding Executive Chef The Carlton Restaurant for many of our 37 years of service to Pittsburgh diners. Mark should be remembered by all who enjoyed his great dishes over the years! It was a joy to watch him learn and master his craft. He truly enjoyed cooking for folks enjoying a special night at The Carlton. May he rest in peace.

Parking info for those attending this evening's Final Pour: You will have the opportunity to purchase deeply discounted wines while saying goodbye to the cherished staff of a Pittsburgh institution!

When entering the garage on Ross Street, press the intercom button and explain you are attending the event. They will let you in and parking is complimentary. If the Ross garage is full, additional complimentary parking will be available in the BNY Client Services Center with an entrance on Centre Avenue.

We will box your wine and help transport it to your vehicle. If you park in the Client Services Center, your wines can be picked up at our loading dock on Ross Street.

For those who were unable to get tickets for The Final Pour, we are offering the rest of our wine for a walk-through sale on Friday, May 28 from 12-3pm. No RSVP or ticket needed for Friday's walk-through sale.

A message from Kevin Joyce:

Today we announced The Carlton is closing its doors for in-person dining at BNY Mellon. We will no longer be open for in-person service, but we hope to continue serving our guests through Eadie’s Market and through the upcoming launch of The Carlton Catering Company.

While I am heartbroken making this announcement, I am incredibly grateful to the city of Pittsburgh and the patrons who made the last 37 years so memorable. Our customers are our family, and we have watched so many of you celebrate life’s milestones around our tables.

I am also grateful for our long-serving employees, many who have been with The Carlton for 30+ years. Their loyalty, dedication and exemplary service helped The Carlton Restaurant become an integral piece of Downtown Pittsburgh’s identity.

When The Carlton closed at the onset of the pandemic, I never expected this would be the outcome. Unfortunately, after 14 months of paying rent on a location I was unable to profitably reopen, it is time to say goodbye to the prospect of in-person dining at BNY Mellon.

We will host a blowout wine sale and tasting event on Thursday, May 27 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. – The Final Pour. We are hosting the event to liquidate wine inventory and restaurant artwork, and (even more importantly) to offer both guests and long-time servers an opportunity to say goodbye.

Tickets are available online and at the door for $99/person and will include wine and hors d'oeuvres. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase deeply discounted wine from the most extensive restaurant inventory in the state of Pennsylvania. The venue may look different than it did during your last visit, but we’ll be pouring outstanding wines, tasting Chef Simon’s phenomenal food and selling our enormous inventory of wine at unbelievably low prices.

While our BNY Mellon location will not reopen, the Carlton’s Executive Chef, Simon DeJohn will continue to prepare The Carlton’s Take & Heat weeknight menu from Eadie's and execute the fresh seafood and meat program, which offers our exceptional cuts of meat and fish for home consumption. Executive Pastry Chef Jeff Julin, who has been with the company since 1982 and mentored numerous budding Pastry Chefs throughout his tenure, will also continue to provide cakes, pies and pastries from Eadie’s.

We are also preparing to launch The Carlton Catering Company for parties, weddings, showers, wakes, meetings and corporate events. We hope our ongoing businesses can remain part of the fabric of the city of Pittsburgh.
