Big Dog Coffee
We are a family-owned neighborhood coffee shop located in the South Side of Pittsburgh. ☕ Est. 2008 Neighborhood Coffee Shop
Do you know the secret to quality espresso drinks? Spoiler alert, it's the beans! We use 's Black Cat Classic Espresso because their team travels year-round to work with their network of farmers on quality. Quality matters, and we're committed to bringing you the best!
Come get a cup of Black Cat Espresso at Big Dog Coffee 😉☕️
It's pumpkin time 🧡
Try our Pumpkin Latte, made with homemade pumpkin spice syrup, hot or iced this season 🍂
Timmy's favorite food and drink combo here? A Honey Latte and everything bagel with cream cheese! ☕️🥯
Thank you for all your hard work this summer, Timmy! We are wishing you luck in your future endeavors. 😊
Saying hello to Amber and Riccardo 👋 Amber was one of our first customers 16 years ago! She and Riccardo live in the neighborhood and have been long-time regulars of ours. We love sitting down with them and catching up over coffee.
We love our South Side neighbors! 🤍
Our current tea list! 🫖 We serve our loose leaf teas by the teapot, perfect for chilly fall mornings coming up soon.
Reminder that we are open tomorrow on Labor Day! We'll be here from 6am-5pm ☕️
Perfect pairing: warm Mocha Latte and Apple Cake 🤤🍎 Our locally baked Apple Cake is perfect if you're looking for an early fall treat! 🍂
Recognize these? If you've been down to the shop, you've definitely seen Baron Batch work on our walls! 🎨
Baron is a well-know Pittsburgh-based artist and former Steelers running back. His studio actually is just down the street from the shop! Baron stopped down a few years ago and really connected with our owners, Cortney and Nikolay. Ever since, we have proudly hosted Baron's works throughout the shop. All of his pieces are for sale at the shop, and continually rotating! We're proud to support our local artists. 🤍
A rainy Sunday morning calls for a warm cappuccino. 🌧️ We're open until 5pm today!
Stop down this weekend for one of our fresh hand-rolled bagels, straight from New York, and a cup of joe! 🥯☕️
We offer
🥯 Plain
🥯 Jalapeño Red Pepper

Get 'em toasted with a little cream cheese. They're shipped to us the very next day after they're made!
yummm!
The back patio is the perfect place to get lost in a good book. 🌿
Did you know we have a "Take a Book, Leave a Book" shelf in the back? Please feel free to borrow a book from us next time you're in! 📚😊
Making great coffee starts with the beans. We exclusively use Intelligentsia beans - from their Black Cat espresso to their seasonal single origin coffee beans.
Intelligentsia focuses on quality coffee from farming and harvesting to roasting. Our current seasonal beans are from Costa Rica and Honduras. Each bag lists the exact day it was roasted on the package, so you always know it's fresh! ☕️
Yesterday, we shared a little bit more about our owners, but today, we want to share some of the history behind our building! Did you know that the Big Dog shop actually used to be a bakery back in the day?
The building was originally built in the late 1800s by Franz Koehler! Before we started Big Dog in 2008, the building was home to a bakery and candy shop called Ding Dongs.
As an homage to the bakery, we still have some of the original cabinets in our Airbnb above the shop! 🫶 If you remember the bakery, let us know in the comments! We'd love to learn more about it.
Meet Cortney and Nikolay, the owners of Big Dog Coffee! Cortney and Nikolay opened the shop back in 2008, having just moved from Dallas where they met studying music. They are parents to three boys, Nikolas, James, and William, who all work that the shop when they're in the city!
In 2008, they wanted to open Big Dog because of their love of people and coffee. Back in Dallas they used to hang out on their porch and make coffees for their neighbors!
