Jazz Visions II...................

April is celebrated nationally as Jazz Appreciation Month, an initiative of the Smithsonian Institution and recognized by Congress. Often called “America’s classical music,” Jazz is also celebrated locally with events and art openings, including the updated and expanded exhibit of Jazz-oriented paintings by Marguerite Bride. “Jazz Visions II” will be on display in the Lobby Gallery at Hotel on North in Pittsfield during the months of April and May. The opening reception will be held on Friday, April 5 from 5-8 PM. What better time than the first Friday of JAM to open this exhibit?
Bride has been a co-partner with her husband Ed in living a jazz infused life since they met and married in the late 60’s. In fact, their first dates were the Newport Jazz Festivals, so the signs were written on the walls way back then. It seemed only natural that her painting career would eventually become jazz infused as well.
Some of the paintings were first introduced in 2016 during the first Jazz Visions exhibit, a duo painting/photography exhibit which included the fine art jazz photography of Lee Everett. There are approximately 25 paintings in this exhibit, watercolors on paper and canvas, plus a few fine art reproductions. The collection of paintings has since expanded to include portraits of known and loved jazz greats (Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Phil Woods, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and more), local and famous haunts (Mission, The Apollo, Bohemian Cavers, Cotton Club) and even paintings of many of our local talented jazz musicians.
Additionally, first time offered, the original painting called “The Master’s Hands” personally signed by Dave Brubeck during his last visit to the Berkshires is included in this show. The profits from the sale of this painting will benefit Berkshires Jazz, Inc.

Attention teachers, parents......I have a lot of paper things that I think would be great for kid's creative activities.....pieces of mat board left over from larger pieces, foam core (same), many packages of canvas sheets in 8.5 x 11 good for ink jet printers or for painting on (think acrylic would be best). Please pm me if you would like them....they are free, you just need to pick them up (Pittsfield).

BASIC WATERCOLOR INSTRUCTION
I plan to offer a Basic Watercolor Program (15 hrs of classroom instruction meeting once a week for 2.5 hrs over 6 weeks) in my studio in Pittsfield this spring. This is BASIC....meaning, you know nothing and would like to learn things like the different brushes and papers, the color wheel and how to mix some of your own colors, and simple painting techniques. Interested? PM me and I will give you more details.

Its this kind of a day today. I did this painting many years ago...its the old Tudor style house on the grounds at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox. Don't even know if it is still standing but I loved it, especially in the snow.

I have 1 large size fine art reproduction of "Christmas on Park Square, 1912" available. The image is 11" x 35" ready for your matting/framing treatment...and there is still time to have this done before Christmas. PM me asap if interested.

WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUE INSTRUCTION - STARTING THIS WEEK ....Tuesday Sept 19. I find myself with a few openings for my "Open Watercolor" lessons on Tuesday mornings 10-12. As these are "open", you will paint what you choose but need assistance with (house portrait? Christmas cards? gifts for the holidays?). These are small group lessons, never more than 4 students, so you will get individualized attention and instruction. Good for beginners through advanced beginners. Each session is 6 weeks...that's 2+ hr per session for total of about 12+ hrs. Cost is $250 per 6-week session (paid at first class) or $45 per lesson - good if you know you must miss some. .. but you can join in at any time if you have a project that needs help...committing to the 6 weeks is not required. Held in my studio in Pittsfield. Be in touch asap and I will send you more info.

Our beautiful Berkshire's...who knows where I took these pictures?

I am having a very special SPECIAL. This painting, Bike at Shelburne Falls, is watercolor on stretched canvas, in a floating frame. The framed size is 22" x 18". You might remember seeing it on the cover of Berkshire HomeStyle Magazine last year. It retails for $1050, however, while it is currently home with me before it moves on, I will offer it to the first person who responds, for $600. PM me right away.
