Gather the family and visit us this holiday season, as the Berkshires are beautiful this time of the year! If you need a reason to visit, how about a classic Marionette Show at Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum on Wed, Dec 27th and Friday, Dec 29th!
The popular puppeteer Carl Sprague will return to Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum in Lenox to charm all ages with The Reluctant Dragon for two holiday vacation week marionette performances. The dates and times are Wednesday, December 27th and Friday, December 29th both at 3:30 pm. The audiences will have the opportunity to meet this wizard, who knows how to pull strings.
This year's holiday show is a spoof on the old English tale of St. George from the story by Kenneth Grahame. In this beloved classic story, a young boy befriends a poetry-loving dragon living in the Downs above his home. When the town-folk send for St. George to slay the dragon, the boy needs to come up with a clever plan to save his friend and convince the townsfolk to accept him. Please come join us. Sprague, who has appeared annually at Ventfort Hall with his “behind the scenery” mastery, has been a puppeteer since childhood. He inherited a collection of 60 antique Czech marionettes, each about eight inches tall that were assembled by his great-grandfather, Julius Hybler. Hybler’s legacy also includes two marionette theaters. Also, Sprague has been a set designer for such motion pictures as “The Royal Tenenbaums” and Scorcese’s “The Age of Innocence,” as well as for theater productions including those of Shakespeare & Company. Admission to the show is $20 per person; $10 for children 4-17 and free for age 3 and under. Children must be accompanied by adults. Ventfort Hall is decorated for the holidays. Reservations are required as seating is limited and can be made on line at https://bit.ly/47eMC0y or by calling (413) 637-3206.
