"Forest Hills Garden Arch" is an oil painting by Pittsford Fine Art member Kathleen Warren. Kathleen is our Featured Artist for the month of August. First Friday Art Show in Rochester NY 2024

Pittsford Fine Art member Gabriele Lodder has moved to a new wall in the gallery and has focused mostly on sunsets and sunrises for the months of August and September. Today's featured painting is "Saying Goodnight", a pastel by Gabriele. She says "“Saying Goodnight” is always a pleasant sight at the end of the day. When the day slows down and the earth sleeps to be renewed the next day.
This pastel painting is part of six other pastels displayed at Pittsford Fine Art."

This past weekend half of us at Pittsford Fine Art moved to a different wall and changed out some artwork. Founding member Becky Maynard moved to her new wall and this is her August/September wall. Becky's work is always filled with color and fun. She loves to create multi-media pieces and they are easily seen as fitting in any home.

"Last Grasshopper of Summer", a watercolor by member Laurence Keefe is our featured art today here at Pittsford Fine Art. Larry, as many of us call him, teaches watercolor at the Memorial Art Gallery Creative Workshop. On his wall for June and July are his many class demonstrations ,matted and framed, each teaching different watercolor methods. They are lovely tidbits of scenes or subjects. Are there any entomologists in your life, or are you one yourself?

Pittsford Fine Art is home to 23 regionally prominent artists. Member Suzi Zefting-Kuhn has been painting what she saw and experienced on a trip to South Africa in May of 2023. It was an amazing experience. "Elephant-tude" is her one of her newest paintings. This elephant seemed to have an attitude when we came upon her on safari at the Garden Route Private Game Reserve. This piece is 24" x 20" and professionally framed.

Pittsford Fine Art July Featured artist Kathy Armstrong has some beautiful light filled watercolors up until the end of this month. "Light Dance" is one of the paintings hanging and it just glows. The transparency of watercolor allows for beautiful passages of light when done well and Kathy has the ability to do such that.

Today's featured art is by Laurence Keefe, a prominent local watercolorist who teaches at the Creative Workshop in the Memorial Art Gallery. For the next two months Larry (as he is called by his fellow artists and friends) is showing many of his demo paintings from his classes. Each piece demonstrates a different technique in watercolor. What do you think the lesson was in this demo?

Working from over 1000 reference photos Suzi has been painting her outstanding trip to South Africa in May of 2023. On one of the safaris she watched a trio of lionesses stroll out of the brush and decided to take a little break in front of the safari jeep. It was like watching overly large house cats as they laid down in the grasses, rolled over, yawned and cleaned their faces with their huge paws. One would forget for a moment that these were in fact wild animals. This painting is an oil on linen panel and is a mere 8"w x 6"h.
