We have 2 open positions at Lemond Nutrition. Know anyone that might want to join our dynamic team? Our dietitians meet multiple times per month to discuss cases, we have regular CEUs to grow / learn, and we are very behaviorally focused with our RDN owner that is also a therapist. Let's grow and serve the community together! Send a cover letter and resume to [email protected].
We all remember. 🇺🇸
This is a good time to remind our athletes that you cannot perform like an athlete and eat like a chronic dieter.
We are pummeled on social media about the impacts of excessive energy (calories) on health. However, there is another side of the story that we see here at Lemond Nutrition.
We're here to help, and we see athletes everyday maximize their sport. We're happy to help!
These peanut butter power balls are the perfect on-the-go snack for your student or for yourself when you need energy for that in-between time of day.
The article written by one of our dietitians, Rae Boswell, just posted by lemondnutrition.com provides more super easy snacks.
Back to these awesome snack balls..What we love about them is that they can be put in the freezer and pulled out when needed! 👍
Recipe below ⬇️
Peanut Butter Power Balls:
1 cup smooth peanut butter or nut butter of choice
¼ cup dried fruit (I like golden raisins or chopped, dried cherries)
¼ cup honey
¼ cup ground flax seed
2 cups whole oats (not quick oats)
Optional 1/2 cup chocolate chips (Or ¼ cup chocolate chips + ¼ cup mini M&Ms)
Place all ingredients in mixing bowl, except M&Ms and/or chocolate chips. Mix well on medium speed. Add an extra TBSP or so of peanut butter if the consistency is too thick. Fold in M&Ms and/or chocolate chips. Scoop into balls and put on a sheet pan and freeze until formed. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for a quick grab. Get the remainder out of freezer as needed. Enjoy!
We love the work of "Mr. & Mrs. Self-Compassion", Drs. Christopher Germer & Kristin Neff!
One of our eating disorder (ED) support groups are going through The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook right now, and it is so powerful in their ED recovery.
However, you don't have to have an eating disorder to find self-compassion helpful. Anyone with a strong inner critic? Yep, we experience it as well, as practitioners, and fellow humans.
Drs. Germer & Neff share the research on how much more happy, satisfied and productive people are when they are self-compassionate.
How can you be more self-compassionate to yourself? 🤔
How are our students protecting their sleep this new semester?
Start habit stacking with some gentle sleep goals. Pick a wind down time that gets the brain calm, the cool bedroom prepared followed by a structured lights out time. 🛏️ 😴
Happy New School Year! 📚

Our eating disorder patient care manager, Lauren Martin, discusses some things to consider that might help walk the line between needing structure, challenging your teen and also supporting their desire for independence which is so normal at this stage in life.

Back to the farms today! Ask all the questions you'd like to know about the safety of the produce you buy in the grocery store. Head over to Instagram stories and submit your questions.
We'd like to thank The Alliance for Food & Farming* for sponsoring Angela's travel for the purposes of communicating farm safety practices back for consumers. What would you like to know?
*The Alliance for Food and Farming is a non-profit organization that represents organic and conventional farmers. Our mission is to deliver credible information to consumers about the safety of all fruits and vegetables.
Like if you agree!
We are farm touring today & tomorrow. 🍓 🍋 🫑
Yesterday we talked about how far food fears pumped into our media being a possible contributor of eating disorders. Let's get the facts so we can make solid decisions with our health.
The Alliance for Food & Farming* has graciously sponsored Angela's travel out to CA to provide an insider's look at some of the US produce fields. There are lots of questions about the safety of the produce we buy - things like pesticide residue, soil safety and sustainability.
Follow us on Instagram & Facebook stories all today and tomorrow. Enjoy the tour, ask your questions and comment about what you see! We'd love this to be an interactive and information experience for you.

Fear sometimes drives us to the very thing we are trying to avoid. In this case, compromised health.
Do you know someone that might be too obsessed with eating "healthy?" They might fit criteria for orthorexia nervosa.
Let's talk about it. 🗣️
Healthy is caring, honoring and nourishing ourselves. Join us in making it the empowering terminology that helps, and not harms.
What do you want "healthy eating" to mean for you?
Careful how you read this. ⚠️
Many "wellness" influencers will say something like this to shame you into working hard, doing more pushing past self-care if you really want the body you've always dreamed of having. Don't get us wrong, challenging yourself & your body has its place. But it's not all about "no pain no gain."
What we mean here is to do some values work. Values work never involves looking a certain way in order to gain significance because it does not satisfy no matter how hard we try. It involves ethics, principles and beliefs that allow you to feel like you are actively living a meaningful life.
In order to have a good relationship with food, we must work on silencing the peripheral noise that is not consistent with our true values. This will result in more body trust, ability to eat more intuitively and see how fueling yourself helps you live out a life you really want. For those recovering from disordered eating or eating disorder, this work may take a bit more time. But it's a worthy journey to work on this. Our dietitians love working in this space. You are an original, and we see every person uniquely.
What comes up for you here? Consider starting a journal to contemplate this question. The answers may surprise you. 🤔
As dietitians, we have to talk about lifestyle factors that affect food & the body's ability to function. Eat the foods that optimize glucose balance, but also consider important lifestyle choices that can also impact the balance.
Hannah Bjerke, one of our dietitians with expertise in diabetes, discusses some of these lifestyle factors in our new article now published on our website here: https://lemondnutrition.com/articles/lifestyle-factors-that-improve-blood-sugar-management
Our next virtual diabetes program will begin October 10, 2024 and it is covered under most insurance programs. If you know someone that needs new information or a refresh on diabetes self-management, get them information to get signed up! https://lemondnutrition.com/freedom-wellness-for-diabetes-prevention-and-management
Behavioral health nutrition is eating in a way that promotes mind, body & spirit well-being. It is not fear-based nor is it rigid or disempowering. It is the opposite. It is empowering, helpful, practical & applicable to your specific lifestyle and life stage.
We are different here at Lemond for that reason! It’s so much more than just the food. We help people that lack mindfulness in food choices, but we also help folks that have become so rigid that it has destroyed their mental health. From behavioral feeding & eating with children or honoring a senior adult’s autonomy, we must not only know the nutrition science but the implications of the way it is communicated. If you seek nutrition guidance, please consider the source’s consideration in these two very important areas - knowledge & behavioral application.
Be Well. 🍃
Smoothies are a great way to chock a ton of tasty goodness into a meal or snack. The anatomy of smoothies we like have this general formula.

How's your self-care? 🍃 Self-care is empowerment.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. Tune in and care for yourself and your body will care for you. Every day is a new day and a new opportunity to take new steps toward wellness.
All or nothing thinking promotes suboptimal mental health in most instances, and it is certainly the case when choosing what to eat.
Dietitians are trained to look at food patterns over several days, weeks and months to assess nutrition adequacy. It doesn't matter if they are in the sports nutrition, clinical or community nutrition field. It's the accurate way to assess.
People come to us wanting to know what foods are "good" or "bad" for them. If it's not gonna give you food poisoning or an immediate health issue (ie., allergic, etc), the food is good if it's something you enjoy. 🤩 👍
Thanks for taking time out to leave this outstanding review, Tina! 🤩 Wow. We love Lauren B. and all the dietitians we handpick to be part of our team. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you are working with our specialists and appreciate your services, could you leave us a FB, Goigle or Yelp review? We love the referrals from other providers, but client referrals are the ones that really warm our hearts 💕
Happy Watermelon Month! 🍉
Watermelon is in-season, and a great way to replenish losses when sweating. It's a natural hydrater because it contains many of the nutrients in commercial electrolytes including potassium, magnesium, water -- and watermelon's sugars happen to be naturally occurring .
Lauren Battles, one of our behavioral health dietitians, shares her watermelon cucumber salad that is really perfect for those hot summer days . Grab the recipe here: https://lemondnutrition.com/articles/refreshing-watermelon-cucumber-salad
Got self-care❓ Self-care is the new healthcare. 😎
At Lemond Nutrition, our ongoing mantra is that health does not occur in silos. It's not just about the food! It's how our food choices, how/when/why we eat are affected by life.
Our bodies need compassionate care. How are you planning to do that this weekend? Let us know if the comments.
Summatime! ☀️
A "fast food" idea here that is nutrient-packed and great for hot days. Texas Woman's University dietetic intern, Alana Cumber, shares a flavor combo that combines tangy sauerkraut with crunchy almonds, sweet apples, and dried cranberries. So delish!

Watcha cravin'? Sometimes we just need a snack that hits right.
Here are some ideas based on the flavor / sensation you are looking for today. 😋
Snacks help keep our blood sugars and energy levels going on hectic days when meals are spaced just a tad too far out.
You cannot maximize your fitness gains and be afraid of eating. Can you hear us from the back?
EVERYDAY - and that is not an exaggeration - everyday, our dietitians see athletes entangled in diet culture. They want to be their best in all areas of life, especially their sport - but aesthetics, body image and comparison can keep them from doing what they need when it comes to eating for performance. The vast majority of things you hear / read on the Internet are either flat out inaccurate, or do not pertain to you when it comes to how to eat.
Get with someone who has a full degree in food, nutrition and biochemistry. If you are an elite athlete, work with a professional that is well qualified in exercise performance. Most of what is online can be debunked with knowing metabolic science.
Let's fuel up! ⚡
People often cope with emotional by turning to food.
Trauma therapist, Dr. Anita Phillips, is one of our favorite faith-based authors on mental health. In her best-selling book, The Garden Within, she shares the importance of attending to your emotions instead of simply working on controlling them.
Our Lemond dietitians are uniquely trained to deal with all levels of emotional eating. Give us a call to schedule an appointment with one of our behavioral health dietitians. We know it's not just about the food. ❤️🩹
You don't need a meal plan, folks!
Don't get us wrong, a great tasting recipe is amazing on days you have time to cook. But the vast majority of people are too busy to execute a meal plan. This bento box is such a stellar way to get a variety of flavors and nutrients without taking much time. Simply fill the slots.
Here are a couple of ideas to get you started. What's your favorite bento box combo?
