Reggie Collier was born on May 14, 1961 in Biloxi. He is a former quarterback. Best known as a dynamic college football star at Southern Miss.

During is junior year in 1981, he became the first quarterback in NCAA Division I history to pass and rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season. He finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting at the end of the year.

Collier was selected by the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League in the first round (third overall) of the 1983 USFL Draft. He injured his hip in the season opener and started being platooned with Bob Lane. He suffered a season ending knee injury in the tenth game, after registering 5 starts, 604 passing yards, one touchdown, 253 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.

Over the next 10 years, Collier played for multiple teams in the USFL, NFL, and the Arena Football League.

In 2000, he was inducted into the USM Athletic Hall of Fame and was selected along with Brett Favre, to the Southern Miss Team of the Century. In 2008, his collegiate No. 10 Jersey was retired by Southern Miss and became one of three players in school history to have been given this honor. He also was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State shared the cover of Sports Illustrated on October 13, 2014 after moving into a tie at #3 in AP Poll. The previous Saturday, Ole Miss beat #2 Alabama 23-17 and Mississippi State beat Texas A&M 48-31.

On October 7, 1984, Walter Payton broke Jim Brown's career rushing mark of 12,312 yards and Brown's career mark of 58 100-yard rushing games in a 20-7 victory over New Orleans. Payton broke the record on Chicago's second play from scrimmage in the second half.

Payton was born in Columbia, Mississippi. He played for Jackson State in college. In the pros he played for the Chicago Bears for thirteen seasons. A nine-time Pro Bowl selectee, Payton is remembered as a prolific rusher, once holding records for career rushing yards, touchdowns, carries, yards from scrimmage, all-purpose yards, and many other categories. He was also versatile, and retired with the most receptions by a non-receiver, and had eight career touchdown passes.

He was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Hall of Fame NFL player and coach Mike Ditka described Payton as "the greatest football player he had ever seen—but even greater as a human being."

Payton passed away in 1999.
