The Grand Canyon’s vast enormity is difficult for the mind to comprehend. As I gazed out into the expanse it only seemed to grow larger and larger. An overnight snow storm filled the canyon with a rare blanket of fog. As the sun rose the fog was burning off, slowly revealing more and more of the basin below.

I feel alive on the Everglades Wilderness Waterway. To be so far from civilization and so connected to nature. Day after day on the water until it becomes my new land. Then back to land where I dream of the water again.

Channeling my inner Ansel Adams at Red Rock Canyon outside Las Vegas.

The typical summer storms were brewing over the Everglades as I waded through the shallow water with my 8x10 Deardorff camera. Thunder rumbled in the distance as the cypress trees stood in preparation for the storm.

Windley Key is an archeological wonder. At a staggering 18’ above sea level it is the highest elevation in the Florida Keys. The thick limestone at this site was laid down by coral reefs over the millennia. The fossil rich stone was quarried for Henry Flagler’s railroad efforts. Scars from the drilling equipment are hidden only where nature can retake a small corner.
