Horse Shows are a Big Bowl of Life Lessons - The Plaid Horse Magazine BY DAPHNE THORNTON OF TWO BIT TRAINING As horse trainers, we all see a lot of angst, drama, fear, and anxiety at horse shows. Sometimes, it’s not even ours. Kids and drama seem to be able to find each other in a crowd. When you add in horses, judging, and parents spending a ton of money… […]
“Sometimes, the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” We feel so blessed and thankful for the 4 years we spent with Charlie on our team. He definitely did not make this goodbye easy, but we’re so happy for him to return home to his owner, Tara and her daughter, Cecelia. We know he will continue to be the best pony ever, making little kids (and adults!) smile & feel all the love 🤍 SOF will miss him, his silly whinny, and the joy he brought us everyday.
Congratulations to Milly Hollis on her new adorable addition to the family, Mochaccino! ☕️🤎 We’re so excited to watch this pair together! Thank you Kallie & Kolby from for helping us find Milly’s perfect new match.
Congratulations Eleanor on your new partnership with Derby! We love this duo of besties so much, and are excited to watch them continue to grow together!🖤⭐️🤎
CONGRATULATIONS to the new owner of Fernhill Jet, Avigayil Klein! 🖤 We are so happy for this pair and can’t wait to see what they accomplish together ⭐️ Many thanks to the Payne Family for making this possible!
The best horses in Heaven
they have no tail.
This is a rule they all know
without fail.
For when a new horse arrives
with a short cut bob,
they all know that this horse
did a very good job.
His owner could not bear
to part with her friend
so she saved his tail,
wrapped in ribbons
and in braids,
to hold with his memory
in a very loving way.
To enter Heaven
without a tail
is an honor,
a message,
that without fail
announces to everyone,
far and wide
that this horse
was more than a wonderful ride.
But
this horse was loved and cherished by one
and when his time serving on this Earth was done
he left behind
a broken heart
and a soul
from which he never will part.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful Mommas here at Sleepy Oaks💗💗💗
- When my instructor repeats to me: ′′Straighten your shoulders and open your chest!” He’s not just teaching me how to stand up. He's teaching me that in life we should always walk straight and face problems head on.
- When my instructor asks me to lower my legs and keep them close to the horse, he teaches me that in life we do not allow distractions and that little is enough to deviate from his path.
- When my instructor tells me "Too much hand, don't hang on to the reins! "He teaches me to give and not to take, with the greatest respect of others.
- When he yells and repeats endlessly: "Look forward in the direction you want to go!” He teaches me the importance of setting goals and never losing sight of them to achieve them.
- When I ask to move up or do more and my instructor says I'm not ready, he teaches me that in life you must always respect your rhythm and never skip the steps.
- When I fall and get back up, I learn that there are always setbacks, times when we back up, but the important thing is to get up more determined than before.
- If I hold my breath during a ride and he jokingly tells me "breathe! You are purple!” I understand that you have to let your emotions flow in order to get rid of them.
- When at the end of the course I am happy with the work done and my instructor says to me′ ′Well done, thank your teacher′′ I know he is not referring to himself but to my horse.
- Now you, you who are watching a rider pass in the saddle, keep saying that riding is not a sport because it is the horse that does everything. I agree. Horse riding is not a sport. It is a life lesson.
Great read!
