Alana is a well established Physician Assistant and member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants (SDPA).

She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida, and her Masters of Medical Science from Nova Southeastern University where she graduated with honors.

Prior to joining Leading Edge Dermatology, Alana worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Physician Assistant. There she honed her skills by performing over five hundred complex surgical closures on patients affected by a variety of cancers.

Alana continually strives to provide the best quality of care for her patients and is excited to bring her expertise back home to South Florida.

Meet some of the amazing women at Leading Edge Dermatology.

1. Tatiana: She is a mom of two beautiful girls and teaches yoga on the side. Fun fact about Tatiana is that she also has her real estate license 🏡

2. Lainey: Lainey is a UCF grad who enjoys Orange Theory workouts and the show Love is Blind. She has a big bubbly personality and is applying to physician assistant school. 👩‍🎓

3. Hennessy: Henessy is our senior medical assistant. She has a nephew who she loves more than anything and she is interested in expanding her skill set in dermatology. 🔬

4. Shania: Meet the newest member to our team. Shania loves the outdoors and is currently working on obtaining her masters in Microbiology and Cell Science. 📚

5. Dr. Elyse Julian: Dr. Julian has two daughters and loves taking care of her patients. She is from Plantation and is proud to be serving her community.

Torn ear lobes are a common occurrence, often caused by accidents, trauma, or heavy earrings. However, the good news is that we have effective solutions available to repairing torn ear lobes.

There are multiple treatment options for skin cancer and we take into consideration the type of cancer, the location of the cancer, and the individual patient when recommending a treatment plan.

Here is an overview of the types of treatment options available for skin cancer:

1. Mohs Micrographic Surgery- Mohs is highly effective for removing skin cancer with minimal damage to surrounding tissue, ensuring the highest cure rate with reduced scarring. However, it can be time-consuming and may require multiple sessions. Mohs is often recommended for lesions on the face, hands, genitalia and shins due to the need for tissue conservation.

2. Excision- this involves cutting out the tumor and some healthy tissue, providing a good success rate but leaving a noticeable scar.

3. ED&C (electrodessication and curettage)- is a quicker option, but it may not be suitable for aggressive cancers. It leaves a noticeable scar, however sutures are not required making it a decent option for very active individuals.

4. Topical chemotherapy cream- creams may be useful for superficial lesions, but it will cause skin irritation. This is not used for aggressive tumors.

5. Superficial radiation therapy (SRT)- the benefit of SET is that it is non-surgical, however, it is not suitable for all skin cancer types. Additionally, the radiated field increases the risk of future skin cancers making it a better option in elderly patients.

Each treatment has its merits, and the choice depends on factors like cancer type, location, and individual health considerations. It’s crucial to consult with a dermatologist to determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on the specific circumstances.
