Primary Care Haiti

Primary Care Haiti saves lives by training health care professionals in rural Haiti.

We partner with volunteers and reputable healthcare centers in Haiti to identify their medical training needs and provide free training. We are an all volunteer, non faith-based organization made up of doctors, ARNPs, PAs, nurses, paramedics, and community organizers, focused on primary care

In the midst of violence and instability in Haiti, Dr Moise, our chief physician, provides timely basic, advanced, and trauma life support training to nurses and doctors in some of Haiti’s most rural hospitals. Her courage and hope is a beacon of light for a country in turmoil.

With help from Primary Care Haiti and other partners, the University of the State of Haiti (UEH) and Haiti’s national EMS Agency trained 131 UEH students in first aid and first aid in teams in Les Cayes in the south of Haiti. We also provided continued education training in CPR for nurses in Les Cayes. This training will better prepare communities for emergencies and natural disasters. Thank you to all the volunteers, staff and trainees who participated!

Got this note from a student at one of our recent First Aid training class in Haiti.
This note warmed our hearts and we thought we would share with everyone.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT VOLUNTEERS FOR PRIMARY CARE. THIS IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!!

A heartfelt thank you!

This first aid training taught me the appropriate measures to take when saving lives in emergency situations, (illness, accidents, disasters). These situations can arise anywhere and without warning; the small and simple actions we take can really make a difference!

I have witnessed many emergency situations where I have felt helpless and guilty while watching people suffer. I did not know what to do to help them. Some of these people were very dear to me, a family member, a neighbor, a student, a collaborator. Some survived, and others, unfortunately, did not .... If only I had received this training earlier, I would have been able to apply the simple skills learned to help them stabilize themselves, protect their physical integrity and avoid worsening their condition while waiting for the ambulance to arrive

It's never too late to do the right thing. I feel lucky to have made the decision to participate in this cohort. Becoming a first aid worker has given me a fresh start and an opportunity to renew my commitment to serve my community. I am delighted.

A special thank you to the DVE of the UEH for this extraordinary initiative which allowed me to meet an extraordinary woman. I was very impressed by her leadership, her dedication, her ability to coordinate and especially her sense of detail: "nothing escapes Dr Moise". My experience with her has had a lasting impression on my life. I will always carry her precious phrase in my heart, “If I did it, you can do it”, to motivate me to achieve my goals.

This training also owes its success to the tireless efforts of the CAN trainers who gave of themselves whole-heartedly. Their primary focus was not only to impart knowledge on effectively fulfilling our roles as first aid workers, but also patience, practicality and above all love for their profession: to engage oneself in the service and happiness of others.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the invaluable support of Primary Care Haiti and the Association of Haitian Doctors Abroad (AMHE). Thanks to you, the practical sessions were real wonders.

My good news is "I am now a first aid worker, and I am very proud of it". Words are not enough to express my satisfaction and my deep thanks to all those who have contributed in one way or another. I also hope that this initiative will be maintained to allow more young people to benefit from this fruitful and extraordinary experience, to later become like me, "ready to save lives".
