Valley EyeCare Center is excited to be named one of the Pillars of Pleasanton. On Tuesday morning, we were one of 16 local businesses honored as a Pillar of Pleasanton from the Pleasanton Unified School District and Pleasanton Partnership in Education Foundation for our support of students through our See To Succeed program by providing free vision exams and glasses to students that the district identifies as needing us.

Thank you Alisal Elementary School for your nomination! We are excited to be helping to make the lives of students, who would otherwise not receive vision care, better through improved vision one student at a time. We are excited to continue to support the Pleasanton Schools!

Ophthalmologist Gives Free Care to Low Income Students Valley EyeCare Center Medical Associates, which has been caring for patients in the Tri-Valley since 1975, has recently extended that care, for free, to students whose families cannot afford it.

Welcome to our fourth thankful Thursday!! Today we are recognizing the hard work of our team for caring for our patients like family. We appreciate all of their work in supporting one another and our patients.

Happy Meet the Team Monday!! Today we are introducing Dr. Coni Bloomingcamp!! Dr. Coni Bloomingcamp has practiced optometry for more than 20 years. She has been active on the local and state levels of the California Optometric Association serving in many different offices and capacities. Dr. Bloomingcamp served as the optometric coordinator for the Flying Samaritans – donating many hours and glasses to the less fortunate in Mexico. Dr. Bloomingcamp grew up in Oakdale, California. She received her degree from Southern California College of Optometry in 1986 and began practicing optometry that same year. Dr. Bloomingcamp now lives in Livermore with her husband and two children. She actively volunteers in school activities and enjoys scrapbookingHer variety of clinical experiences has provided her with a diverse knowledge and she is excited to be providing eye care at VEC. Dr. Bloomingcamp has been part of the VEC team since February of this year!

Happy Meet the Team Monday!! Today we are introducing Dr. Cynthia Huang!! Dr. Huang received her Bachelors of Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in Microbiology with a minor in French. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry from University of California Berkeley, School of Optometry. She then completed a one-year postgraduate clinical residency program at VA Long Beach in Primary Eye Care and Low Vision Rehabilitation. She is TLG certified, allowing her to practice to the fullest scope of optometry. She is passionate about helping patients understand and manage their ocular diseases. She speaks Mandarin fluently and is a member of the American Academy of Optometry. In her free time, she loves to try new restaurants and hike. Dr. Huang has been part of the VEC team for the last year!

Happy Meet the Team Monday!! Today we are introducing Dr. Lorraine Yeung!! Dr. Yeung obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California at San Diego. She then received her Doctor of Optometry degree and graduated with honors at Western University of Health Sciences. After receiving her doctorate, she continued on to complete a one-year residency program at Seidenberg Protzko Eye Associates in Maryland where she received extensive training in the treatment and management of ocular disease and preoperative/postoperative care. Dr. Yeung is certified in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Her variety of clinical experiences has provided her with a diverse knowledge and she is excited to be providing eye care at VEC. Dr. Yeung has been part of the VEC team for the last year!

Happy Meet the Team Monday!! Today we are introducing Dr. Nicole Lee!!!Dr. Lee obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in Florida where she received the Marco Clinical Excellence in Primary Care Award. In addition, she completed a one-year postgraduate clinical residency program at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, where she honed her skills in the treatment and management of ocular diseases and ocular manifestations of systemic diseases. Dr. Lee is a certified therapeutic pharmaceutical agent and a certified licensed optometrist in the State of California. Dr Lee’s clinical experience also includes recent participation in an FDA phase 3 clinical trial for the study and treatment of dry eye. Dr. Lee has been part of the VEC team for the last 5 years!!

Welcome to Meet the Team Monday!!! Today we will be introducing Dr. Gina Trentacosti! Dr. Trentacosti received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis, in biological sciences. She graduated from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry. She completed her clinical rotations at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC, Vision American in St. Louis, MO, and Heritage Park Vision Source in Midwest City, OK. Dr. Trentacosti has been part of the VEC team for 23 years.

Welcome to Meet the Team Monday!!! Today we will be introducing Dr. Anh Le!!! Dr. Le graduated from the University of California Berkeley, School of Optometry in 2003. She has worked in several private practices before coming to Valley Eye Care. This experience has given her a wealth of knowledge in the areas of contact lens fitting, orthokeratology, pediatrics, and the treatment of ocular diseases. She especially loves to work with children and strongly feels that having good vision in childhood can impact all aspects of their lives and can give them the potential for a great future. She is a proud mother of two lovely children and is adept at helping children feel comfortable during an exam, some of them may even find themselves having fun by the time she’s done.
Dr. Le also has great insight into current research trends due to her 4 years of experience working in science and research prior to becoming an optometrist. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, San Diego in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Psychology in 1995. She is fluent in Vietnamese and can perform an exam in Spanish with ease. Dr. Le has been part of the VEC team for the last eight years!

August is National Children's Vision and Learning Month!! As school is just beginning it is important to keep up on your children's eye exams. 1 in 17 preschoolers and 1 in 4 school aged children have an undiagnosed vision problem. With corrected vision children are able to perform better in school and in other activities. Remember to schedule your child's eye appointment every year to ensure that their vision does not change.

Welcome to Meet the Team Monday!!! Today we will be introducing Dr. Kala Swamynathan!! After successful completion of Transitional Year internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, San Jose, she worked as a research coordinator at Stanford University department of ophthalmology. Her residency training in ophthalmology was obtained at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, where she was awarded the prestigious Merrill Grayson Leadership Award for the best outgoing resident. She has authored and co-authored papers in corneal diseases and glaucoma. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Alameda Contra Costa Medical Association.

Prior to joining the staff at Valley EyeCare Center Dr. Swamynathan worked several years in San Joaquin County. A comprehensive ophthalmologist, she brings with her valuable experience in treating a wide variety of eye disease.

Welcome to our first Meet the Team Monday. First up is Dr. Michael Gagnon!! After graduating from Saint Mary’s College of California, Dr. Gagnon received his Doctorate of Medicine from Creighton University School of Medicine. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University, and spent an additional year for sub-specialty training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of Utah, Moran Eye Center. A board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Gagnon has been on the clinical teaching staff of the Department of Ophthalmology at Stanford University. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the California Association of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the California Medical Association, and the Alameda Contra Costa Medical Association.Specializing in cornea and refractive surgery, Dr. Gagnon has performed a wide variety of refractive procedures, including LASIK and Advanced Surface Ablation, and no injection sutureless cataract surgery.

He has published many papers and has given lectures at national meetings on topics in refractive surgery as well as ocular surface reconstruction. Dr. Gagnon received the Best Paper of Session Award at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting for his investigation of intraocular lens calculations after LASIK. His areas of interest also include LASIK, corneal transplants, sutureless corneal transplants (DSEK), pterygium surgery, artificial corneas, and dry eyes.

One fun fact about Dr. Gagnon is that he enjoys hiking national parks in his spare time!

On Friday, Dr. Gagnon visited Stoneridge Creek Senior Community and spoke with the residents about cataracts and the newest technological advances in cataract surgery. Thank you Stoneridge Creek for having us!!
