National Disability Independence Day is celebrated on July 26th each year to commemorate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush.
The ADA is a civil rights law that aims to promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities, and to ensure their freedom from discrimination in employment, public accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications.
The day also serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by people with disabilities, and the importance of accessibility, inclusion, and empowerment.
