General Meeting of the Board
Destination Imagination, Inc. Global Finals international tournament recently concluded in Kansas City, MO. Teams were present from the US, Canadian provinces Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia, and Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, Brazil, the Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Republic of South Korea, China, Cayman Islands, Australia, and Qatar.
Global Finals 24 was a great experience for our 15 Minnesota Destination Imagination teams. We had two teams finish in the top 10, and two more teams finish in the top 20 in their Challenges and levels. Several of our teams attended Globals for the first time this year, including teams from ISD 279 - Osseo Area Schools, Robbinsdale, and Wayzata. Our Robbinsdale team was international itself, with kids speaking three different languages of origin during their challenge performance.
The Wayzata DI team who presented to the 287 School Board were featured on WCCO. This group turned their DI Global Finals-winning challenge solution on school gun violence into a successful 501 c 3 called Vigilance Safety. The group just graduated from Wayzata High School and will still be involved in their company.
A couple of comments from parents:
Jenny Zeroni, Wayzata: "Thank you for creating and maintaining an innovative, inclusive and important platform for our students. Best program ever."
Betty Bowen, Osseo: "Thank you all for your help with my donation to Globals. It was a wonderful experience for my grandson...and also for us. We wish more kids could experience this global event."

Each year, we elevate our student and family voices by inviting them to share their story at a school board meeting.
Yesterday, Aislinn Dwyer, North Education Center (NEC) principal, presented the Spotlight Award to Darwin. He has been a student at NEC since second grade and is currently a Tier 2 high school student who will graduate next month. Principal Dwyer shared that this year, Darwin has been a school leader as the president of the student government and a student custodian. Recently, he collaborated with building leadership to clean and revitalize 22 planters around the school that had fallen into disrepair. Classrooms adopted a planter each and participated at the family night event focused on community care.
Darwin shared that post-graduation, he intends to go to North Hennepin Community College and eventually transfer to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to study political science.
