We had a fabulous last day of school! We released our butterflies, played with the parachute, made friendship bracelets and paper airplanes. I pray that these children know Jesus loves them and that they will continue to grow in their Savior’s love.
Summer Treats is our theme this week and we made and enjoyed homemade ice cream! The children devoured it! I even caught a glimpse of a few students licking their bowls!
This last week we held our spring program. You’re a Grand Old Flag, Yankee Doodle, and God Bless America were just a few of the patriotic songs we sang. We had props for the songs including rhythm sticks that we used for When Johnny Comes Marching Home and kazoos for When the Saints go Marching In. It was a wonderful night. We all left that evening feeling proud to be an American!
We had a beautiful day for our field trip to Eastman Nature Center. The children learned about Animal Babies. We watched a puppet show about a turtle trying to find his mom and his quest to find the correct food he should eat.
Later we all pretended to be birds making nests, flying, and feeding our babies. We learned about the life cycle of a frog and the children had the opportunity to pet a toad!
Of course the best thing about the trip for many was the bus ride!
When we explored seeds and flowers this week we practiced our letters in dirt! We planted some grass seed, counted seeds, and we practiced alphabet order.
The best thing about Beach Week is the beach party! We did the Limbo, pretended to surf to The Beach Boys “Let’s Go Surfing” and learned to do the hula!
This week during our dinosaur theme we asked the question, “ how many of our feet will fit inside a dinosaur’s foot print?” We decided to estimate and a few students guessed correctly!
Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! We’re going to the moon! During Space Week we made our letters in “moon dust” and in art we made shape rockets and created fizzy moons.
We reviewed the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection many different ways. The children acted out Palm Sunday, sorted pictures that were in the story and not in the story, and I read the students many different books with a variety of illustrations. Happy Easter everyone! He is Risen!
We had so much fun in the snow! It was the perfect packable snowman snow. Even the big kids on spring break were having fun!
It was a silly week. We were thinking about Spring and Easter and then it snows! One student said outside today, “ this is the best day ever!” The children love the snow and as teachers we have missed this God given toy!
During our Literacy Week we hosted a Literacy Event and Skye from Paw Patrol came and did a presentation on dogs. It was fun to see how much the children knew about Paw Patrol. We did a few literacy activities like play rhyming Bingo, alphabet sequencing, and a family art project after reading the book The Dot. It was a fun event!
Last week we had Literacy Week. The dress up days included Pajama Day, Super Hero Day, Wacky Wednesday, and Favorite Team Jersey Day. The children decorated their own “Team Jesus” jersey! Our Bible story was Jesus rides into Jerusalem and the children had the chance to act out the story with costumes.
The best part of our Pizza theme is making our own pizzas! Yum!
During Transportation week we transform our big room into an entire city. With tape we created roads and with blocks we built a hospital, gas station, church and McDonald’s! The children learned about different means of transportation that we use on land, in the air, and on the water.
Happy Valentine’s Day! We had a special Parent Chapel today. We made crafts that remind us of the love of Jesus. Pastor Roloff shared a message from God’s word declaring Jesus is our Good Shepherd, always caring for us and loving us. What a wonderful morning!
The Grocery Store was the theme this week. The children sorted and counted coins, clipped coupons, and bought groceries. It’s fun to pretend you’re going to Target and buying food!
Lego’s are the best preschool educational tool! They make everything multi-sensory. For literacy we used legos to make letters. In math we used legos to make patterns and to count. The week ended with a boat making challenge!
The Science Crew was here today for an in-house field trip called Curious Construction. The children learned about being a scientist and using your imagination. The children experienced Beam, Truss, and Suspension bridges. Finally we were shown pictures of buildings and learned how they are built to withstand the wind. The children had the opportunity to make their own building out of clay.
Letter “K” week. We circled all the letter K’s and put the letters of the alphabet in order. Animals in Winter was our theme. We learned about animals that hibernate, migrate, and adapt.
A small, medium, and large, snowball sort works well with snowmen creating, even if we are inside! Letter writing with shaving cream and salt trays makes practice more fun! Stay warm everyone!
Winter’s coming! Winter’s coming! This week we were thinking about things we do in the winter. Of course this included making hot chocolate!
Happy birthday Jesus! May the birth of God’s own son, Savior of the world, bring you peace and joy this Christmas!
Last week we held our annual gingerbread house creating and decorating event. Parents, grandparents and the children were so creative. The houses looked so yummy!
Christmas tree math, Christmas tree rhyming practice, candy cane crystals for science, green cup and gum drop Christmas trees, and letter “J” for Jesus!
We celebrated Thanksgiving today with a friendship fruit salad. The students brought in fruit to share, we talked about the many blessings God has given us, especially the peace we have through Jesus. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you to the families who brought their children to sing on Sunday. They did a wonderful job singing Be Kind and I Can Stamp. Our congregation loves to see the children sing!
During weather week we practiced our letters with cloud writing! For math we counted clips to represent rain drops falling from a cloud. In one experiment we made our own cloud of shaving cream rain, and in another experiment we asked the question will the wind blow it?
Maari Simcox came to school to talk about her work as a food marketer. The pictures she showed made us all hungry!
It was a fabulous week learning about different jobs and people in our community that make our lives better!

Our Story
The purpose of Ascension Lutheran Preschool is to teach God’s love and forgiveness to children while providing a wonderful, warm first school experience.
The teachers at Ascension strive first and foremost to teach Christian values and principles while maintaining a loving, caring Christian environment. We bring God and His truth into all that we do, beyond Bible stories, chapel and songs. It’s weaved into how we talk and respect others, how we learn about ourselves and the amazing world around us, and how we handle discipline.
There are many preschool options for parents to choose from that all seek to grow their children socially, emotionally, and intellectually. However, we also strive to foster spiritual development, which directs all other development. It’s critical that from early on, children see themselves and others as God sees them: each one (different as we are) a unique creation of his, whom He loves and made to absorb the wonderful life and creation He has given us. Each of us sins, need forgiveness and the forgiveness of each other, and are set free to serve God and each other in love through Jesus.
Our class sizes are small with a “homey” feel, a physically and emotionally safe place for children to grow and develop. Please email or call to set up a tour or visit one of our Open Houses. We look forward to meeting you and your child!
