Yesterday, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, along with officers from San Fernando PD, participated in a series of **training** scenarios that tested their abilities to plan, coordinate, and respond to an active shooter situation on-board a Metrolink train.

Late last week Metrolink deputies teamed up with the Department of Homeland Security Police in conducting a joint operation. It is of utmost importance to us that all Metrolink riders feel safe any time they commute on the trains.
Metrolink Bureau is feeling melancholy today because we’re losing a darn good one, but we are also so incredibly happy for her because Gladis is getting promoted!! Our K9 Deputy Velasco and his partner Tina participated in training earlier at USC. Other agencies attended with their K9s, as well as Deputy Velasco’s sister, USC Public Safety Officer Velasco.

Earlier this morning, Metrolink deputies conducted another joint operation alongside the Department of Homeland Security Police. It is our number one priority that Metrolink riders feel safe anytime they commute on the trains. Also, be watchful while riding, and if you see something, say something.
Metrolink Bureau would like to welcome K9 Deputy Velez and his partner Taboo! Taboo is a two-year-old Belgian Malinois who is very excited to be at his new unit and is looking forward to doing some awesome K9 work!
Last week, our Metrolink deputies, along with the Department of Homeland Security Police, conducted a joint operation. During these operations, train cars are checked for suspicious devices and deputies conduct fare enforcement. We want to ensure that riders feel safe wherever they go.
Deputy James Tutino was killed when a man caused a commuter train to derail when he parked his SUV on the railroad tracks in the train's path.
As the train approached the obstruction the suspect ran from the scene. The train derailed when it struck the vehicle and then struck an oncoming commuter train, causing it to derail as well.
Deputy Tutino, who was en route to the Central Jail, and 10 civilians were killed as a result of the incident. More than 200 other citizens were injured. The suspect was arrested a short time later and charged with arson and 11 counts of homicide and was sentenced to 11 consecutive life sentences without parole.
Deputy Tutino had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, five children, five grandchildren, parents, brother, and sister.

Deputy Mee recently retired and was honored with the service award for his 33 ½ years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department! We wish him good health and happiness on his next chapter!
Yesterday, Metrolink Bureau deputies participated in an active shooter training exercise in Lancaster. In today’s times, the LASD frequently goes through training courses - readying themselves, should the need call for it.
We here at Metrolink Bureau enjoyed an amazing Christmas luncheon thanks to our A/Captain Ben-Sahile. Delicious food was had and awards were presented. K9 Deputy Velasco and his partner Tina were awarded Best Hook of the Year and Deputy Orejel was awarded Deputy of the Year. We appreciate and support ALL of our men and women in uniform and we thank them for their tireless service!

The Department of Homeland Security Police, LASD Metrolink K9 Deputy Kim, along with his partner “Begetta,” conducted a joint operation to ensure rider safety yesterday morning. Trains were checked for suspicious devices while deputies conducted fare enforcement. Ridership safety and experience are always our top priority 24/7.

Last week in the Sun Valley (north Los Angeles) area, our deputies assisted in the cleanup of a homeless encampment along the tracks. Check out the before and after pictures, and always remember to STAY OFF THE RAIL TRACKS and the surrounding RIGHT OF WAY!!
On Monday, Metrolink Bureau deputies conducted trespasser/encampment checks on the railroad tracks in the cities of Orange, Anaheim, and Santa Ana. Ten citations for trespassing were issued out to violators. For your safety and those around you, please stay off the railroad tracks and do not trespass due to the risk of being struck by a passing train.
Our K9 Deputy Velasco and his partner Tina made a special appearance this past weekend in support of Fix'n Fidos golf tournament event, which is a charitable nonprofit that raises money to help low-income southern California residents spay and neuter their four legged best friends.

Metrolink’s ROW team, along with local police and fire departments, participated in a training exercise that involved a simulated collision between a new Arrow Line train and passenger vehicle. The training was meant to familiarize the deputies and local agencies with Metrolink’s new Arrow Line trains and rail service that will begin transporting passengers from Downtown San Bernardino to Redlands University beginning October 24, 2022.
Metrolink deputies conducted a Streetcar Operation at Los Angeles Union Station earlier last week. The deputies checked for valid train fare, ensured passenger safety, and conducted routine patrol checks around the area. Streetcar Operations are done several times a week at different times of the day.
A huge congratulations to Deputy Thomas who was recently promoted to Sergeant! He gave us a great 12 years at Metrolink Bureau and we wish him all the best at his new assignment.
Deputies from Metrolink recently participated in an active shooter training exercise at a local high school. Should an active shooter situation arise in the future, our deputies are more than equipped to respond!
