The Stone of the Pregnant Woman, the largest monolith ever quarried by human hands, lies in Baalbek, modern-day Lebanon. Believed to have been extracted around the first century B.C., this colossal stone measures approximately 21.5 meters (70.5 feet) in length, 4.8 meters (15.75 feet) in width, and 4.2 meters (13.8 feet) in height. Weighing between 1,000 to 1,200 tons (approximately 2,000,000 to 2,400,000 pounds), it serves as a testament to the impressive skill and ambition of ancient engineers.
In addition to its massive scale, the stone’s location in Baalbek, a city known for its rich Roman-era history, adds to its mystique. This site is also home to several other massive stones, such as the Trilithon, three blocks weighing 800 tons each, which form part of the foundation of the Temple of Jupiter. These structures, combined with the Stone of the Pregnant Woman, showcase the incredible engineering feats that ancient civilizations were capable of achieving with limited technology.
Interestingly, nearby excavations in 2014 uncovered an even larger stone, referred to as the Stone of the South, weighing an estimated 1,650 tons. Despite the Stone of the Pregnant Woman’s grandeur, its role and the methods used to quarry and potentially transport it remain subjects of debate. How exactly did ancient builders intend to move such monumental blocks, and what was their ultimate purpose in constructing these megalithic wonders? These questions continue to intrigue archaeologists and researchers, making Baalbek a focal point for the study of ancient engineering

The Arch of Time is a 180-meter-high natural stone arch, one of the largest of its kind in the world, located in the canyon of the La Venta River in Cintalapa de Figueroa, Chiapas, in the state of Chiapas. The canyon is an 80-kilometer-long ravine with walls up to 400 meters high and narrows sometimes only ten meters and more than 80 million years old. In it you can find caves and waterfalls on its walls and viewpoints. This arch was formally discovered in 1989 by Italian explorers.

Atlit Yam is a 9000-year-old submerged Neolithic village off the coast of Atlit, Israel, in the Levantine sea. Dating back to at least the final Pre-Pottery Neolithic period, between 6900 and 6300 BC, Atlit Yam covers an area of approximately 10 acres and lies at a depth of between 8 to 12 meters underwater. The site has been submerged due to post-glacial sea level rising. The site was discovered and has been excavated since 1984, revealing a wealth of artifacts, structures, and human remains that provide a snapshot of Neolithic life. These include stone-built houses, wells, and a series of water wells that are among the earliest known in the world, indicating advanced techniques for freshwater management. There was also the discovery of a semi-circular arrangement of stones around a spring, along with animal remains and human burials. More than 100 human skeletons have been found, providing valuable data on diet, health, and lifestyle. Some skeletons showed signs of tuberculosis, offering early evidence of the disease in prehistoric times.

One of the most impressive hydraulic works of pre-Columbian America is located 20 km from Cajamarca, in the archaeological site of Cumbemayo, Peru. In Quechua, "yaku" means water, and the name of this place refers to the aqueduct built here over 2,000 years ago.
