This post is being added to every realtor site I'm part of... Today I received a voicemail from the St. John's County Sheriff's Department, Civil Division. I was told there was a warrant for my arrest and I was in contempt of court for failure to appear. They went on to say I was scheduled for a Federal Grand Jury yesterday and I failed to appear. They stated I was notified in March, gave my address and went on to tell me everything that needed to be done. The tasks included a Zoom call with a judge, going to the court house to verify my signature and pay two fines. I was assured that if the signature didn't match, we would be reimbursed the fines, totaling $1,500. After my initial panic, my first thought was of my real estate license, then I went on to panic some more! Thankfully, my husband is much more level headed and less emotional than I am and he called the Sheriff's office. We were assured they would NEVER notify anyone of a warrant over the phone. This is a scam that is targeting realtors. Yesterday a realtor sent $500 and of course, once sent, it couldn't be recovered. The scammers are using burner phones and the Sheriff's Department haven't yet been able to catch up with them. AS PER ST. JOHN'S COUNTY COURT OF CLERKS AND THE ST. JOHN'S COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE THEY DO NOT CALL AND ANNOUNCE WARRANTS FOR FAILURE TO SHOW FOR JURY DUTY, FEDERAL OR LOCAL. YOUR JURY DUTY RESPONSIBILITY IS ONLY TO THE COUNTY YOU RESIDE IN WEATHER FEDERAL OR LOCAL. IF YOU LIVE IN DUVAL COUNTY, YOUR JURY DUTIES WILL ONLY BE TO DUVAL COUNTY. PLEASE BEWARE!!!
