As tornado season approaches, safety is our top priority! Here are some important tips to help you stay prepared:

Secure Outdoor Propane Tanks:
Ensure that your propane tanks are properly anchored and secured to prevent them from becoming projectiles during high winds.

Have a Safety Plan:
Post a list with contact information for your propane supplier and emergency services (fire department, etc.) along with instructions for turning off propane, electricity, and water. If you do need to turn off your propane, contact a service technician to inspect your propane system before turning it back on.

Stay Informed:
Keep a weather radio or smartphone app handy to receive alerts and updates about tornado warnings in your area.

Inspect Propane Equipment:
Regularly inspect your propane appliances and equipment for any signs of damage or wear, and to ensure that it is properly anchored and secured. If you suspect a gas leak, leave the area immediately and call emergency services.

Emergency Kit:
Prepare an emergency kit with essential supplies including food, water, flashlights, batteries, first aid supplies, and important documents. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes can develop and move quickly. Have a battery-powered radio available in the event that the power goes out.

Review Insurance Coverage:
Review your insurance coverage to ensure that you are adequately protected in the event of tornado-related damage.

After a tornado has struck, use extreme caution and take the time to carefully evaluate the condition of all the structures on your property. Check the entire area for downed power lines, damaged gas lines, or damage to your propane tank. If your propane tank becomes dislodged from its service line, it’s likely to be leaking gas out into the surrounding area. A spark from a fallen power line or other ignition source could pose a danger to anyone nearby. Also, debris and water can find their way inside regulators and controls, causing potential safety issues. If it is dark, use flashlights, not candles. Immediately call your local utility company or propane supplier if any of these hazards exist. Do not attempt repairs yourself.

Remember, safety always comes first!
