In honor of National Gum Care Month, let's talk Periodontal Disease.

The 4 Stages of Periodontal Disease

Stage 1: Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that oftentimes accompanies inflammation, discomfort, and bleeding. You may also notice calculus and plaque buildup. With professional care and consistent oral hygiene routines, gingivitis is most often reversible.
Stage 2: Early Periodontitis unfortunately cannot be reversed, it can only be treated. It develops from untreated gingivitis. During this beginning stage of periodontitis, pockets begin to form around the tooth; bone and tissue loss begins.
Stage 3: Moderate Periodontitis continues to effect bone and tissue loss. You might notice a bone level reduction during this stage.
Stage 4: Advanced Periodontitis is the most advanced stage of gum disease. Typically, it is showcased by extensive bone and tissue loss. Also, your teeth may become loose, fall out, and need to be replaced. Depending on the bone loss and damage, options may need to involve grafting of bone and tissue.

Please do not put off dental care. Our Providers at Soul Dental are skilled in detecting and treating all your concerns at any stage... for the sake of your health we prefer to catch this infection early!
