HELPFUL TIPS FOR HURRICANE PREPARATION
Do Not Empty Your Pool:
Most pools and patios are designed to flow the water away from the home. An empty pool can be a bigger problem because of the ground pressure.
Turn off Electric Power to Pool Equipment:
Turn off circuit breakers at the main panel to prevent systems from operating during the storm.
Protect the Electrical Pool Equipment:
In the likelihood of flooding and the equipment has been shut off, you may want to wrap the equipment with a waterproof plastic barrier.
Remove all Loose Items in Pool Area:
Do not put patio furniture or other objects in the pool.
Add Extra Chlorine to the Pool:
You can add extra liquid or granular chlorine.
Yes, you can add chlorine to a salt pool.
Do Not Cover Pool:
Covers can be damaged from wind and flying debris.
BE SAFE!

This is a shout out to our employees at Pelican Pools.

Larry and I are so thankful to our team. Shortly after Ian hit, one by one, they arrived at our house, as there was no or very little ability to communicate by phone, to check on us and
to see when to return to work.

Although, they did not have electricity, water, or phone service themselves; once a plan was formulated, they started back to work. Less than one week after Ian hit, regardless of their personal damage and devastation, they were back at it!

They chased down gas, traveled to another county for chemicals, found ways to charge equipment, were flexible on their routes. They were considerate and compassionate. Because of this wonderful team, we were able to get chemicals in every pool the week after the hurricane. This may not sound like much, but it stopped many pools from turning green (or greener) or black, from the six hours of constant rain and wind of Ian. It also required navigating back yards with debris everywhere. Then they jumped into high gear! They began pulling out port a potty, grills, patio beams, trees (not just branches), fire pits, doors, alligator, catfish, and shingles, oh so many shingles. The list goes on and on.

Most have been working 12-hour days, six days a week (some seven). Larry and I are so deeply grateful to our team. This post doesn’t begin to convey the loyalty, integrity, and hard-working staff we have! We wanted it to be known how thankful Larry and I are for each and every one of our employees, who are also our friends! OUR SINCERE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

We hope everyone remained safe during the devastating hurricane. We hope to begin treating pools on Monday, but safety of our employees are of utmost concern. Please be patient while we navigate this extremely difficult situation.

Our industry has been more fortunate than most during the Covid pandemic. Recently, however, we are being impacted in a different way. Unfortunately, we are having a difficult time getting parts and chemicals of all kinds. This is causing delays in our response time to all repairs and special treatments. Our normal turnaround time is much longer but we will get to you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. We sincerely appreciate your business.

COVID-19 & SWIMMING

Swimming Pools Safe When Properly Maintained

The Center for Disease Control says that COVID-19 cannot be transmitted through properly maintained pools and spas – “There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.” www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/php/water.html

The Florida Swimming Pool Association reminds everyone that while staying at home during the current pandemic, it is a great time to enjoy swimming pools and hot tubs. Pools and spa owners should follow current guidelines of only allowing 10 people in the pool and deck area at a time. By limiting numbers of pool participants and allowing for space between one another, people will help keep each other stay safe while still enjoying the pool.

Proper maintenance, upkeep and testing of pools should be done at regular intervals and preferably performed and monitored by licensed professionals to ensure proper pool and public health. All entry and exit points into and out of the pool and deck area such as ladders, gates, and doors should be properly sanitized throughout the day.

Pools and spas are valuable resources to communities, allowing adults and children access to healthy and safe recreation and relaxation.

The Florida Swimming Pool Association is a trade association for the pool and spa industry in Florida. There are approximately 700 member businesses in 16 Chapters across the state. Members are required to abide by a code of ethics and to be properly licensed and insured. FSPA provides the industry with access to continuing education courses, information on current trends and issues, and an arbitration program and government relations representation. FSPA is governed by a Board of Directors.
