Saturday Book Recommendation: THE SCHOPENHAUER CURE. — This book is a great read. The story centers on a therapy group that meets once each week to work through issues of love, pain, mistakes, and redemption. — It’s one of my favorite books. — The author, Irvin D. Yalom, is one of the pioneers of existential psychotherapy. The reader learns a lot about counseling and therapy, from the therapist’s perspective.

Saturday Book Recommendation: ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT by Erich Maria Remarque. -- I read this book for he first time in high school. That was several years the Army and Iraq. -- The book is the story of a 17 year old boy who leaves home to pursue glory, purpose, and friendship in war. It is really a story of how nations often sacrifice their youth on the alter of patriotism and self interest. It is a compelling story. I recommend the book, or you can watch the 2022 film version, which is streaming on Netflix.

Yesterday our board of directors had its annual meeting. We added two talented people to our board, Randy Kelley and Mara Mesa. — Russell Holloway was elected president for 2023; Michael Hankes, Vice President of Prayer; Jesse Jarvis, Treasurer; Chris Atwell, Secretary. Tiffany Jarvis, my favorite board member for her focus on protecting our mission, will be with us for another year. And of course Bill Griffin, who offers experience and professionalism is with us for 2023. — It’s a talented and dedicated group. — One major focus will be opening a new integrated care center: Open Doors Trauma Healing Center. We need your prayers and support to make this much needed center a reality.

Saturday Book Recommendation: THE BODY KEEPS THE SCORE. — This book fundamentally changed how I understand trauma, the treatment of trauma, and trauma prevention. It is an absolutely must read for clinicians and anyone else who wants to understand the nature and roots of PTSD. It is a roadmap of hope for many individuals.
