Our Story
All my life I’ve had entrepreneurial tendencies. As a child I was always concocting ways to make money. At the age of nine I picked Holly out of the trees in our neighborhood. It grew in big bunches in the middle of the trees. I saw it every year just sitting there, going to waste. I’d bundle and tie it with a small piece of colorful Christmas ribbon then go door to door selling them for $.50/each.
As a teenager I’d buy candy in bulk and take it to school to resale for a profit, right out of my backpack. My brain was always at work, trying to come up with “the next big thing”. But until I came up with it, I’d spend my spare time making money by buying low and reselling high.
How I Became a Color Street Stylist Jessica Cameron
As I entered adulthood I discovered E-bay. This was fantastic! I was bound to be able to make a living doing what I love. Now I could buy practically anything and resell to a much larger audience. No more going door to door, or selling candy from my backpack. That turned out to be pretty good, but I hadn’t considered the time it was going to take me to find the good deals, or the time it was going to take me to pack and ship all of the items to my customers, then deal with shipping problems or unhappy customers. There had to be a better way. I still was looking to become a Color Street Stylist I guess…lol.
Fast forward to my life as a busy mother of two with a full-time job, I discovered direct sales. My first two direct sales experiences weren’t terrible… they just weren’t a good fit for me. The first one pushed me to carry a large inventory of products. As a Color Street Stylist my inventory fits in my purse. The problem was that their line of products was so vast, that it was impossible to know what your customers were going to want. That was IF you could find customers who didn’t already have a consultant of their own. With 3.5 million consultants worldwide, this in itself was no easy task. Ultimately I clashed with my director, had a hard time finding new customers and wound up with lots of expired products that went unsold.
My second direct sales experience was great! I got in when the company was only three years young, the product was very inexpensive and sold itself. I did quite well, however I came to find out that the product was simply too bulky, not easy to ship, not easy to set up at vendor events and TOO inexpensive. I had to sell SO many items to be able to see a profit. When you factor in the time it took to package and ship or set up at events… it just wasn’t paying off for me.
