Today, students are sorting context clues out of "spaghetti intestines," pulling relevant details from "cauliflower brains," and looking for signal words in "gumball eyeballs" while working collaboratively to review previously taught content!
Ms. Wetherall’s 7th grade science classes completed a mini lab last week! The students were to use different utensils that served as the beaks of the finches that Charles Darwin’s observed. They would then see how much food they could collect in a certain amount of time. After that, they would compare which beak would allow for greater chances of survival. They also practiced recording data and creating graphs to show and compare their results
Our incredible teachers have been learning new ways to teach vocabulary for the past several weeks during the morning "vocab club". They have been diving deep into conversations around how to create fun and "sticky" ways for students to learn and remember the MANY terms students need each year in each subject, as well as common misconceptions and testing traps they may see.
Today, student council partnered with the USDA Canal Point Lab employees and planted sugar cane on campus. They learned about the varieties and how to grow it. Our visitors will return to help with harvest. The school garden is really expanding.

It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved West Gate K-8 teacher, Mrs. Josie Maldonado, and her husband, Luis, in a tragic car accident this past weekend. Mrs. Maldonado was a beacon of light in our community, touching the lives of students with her kindness, dedication, and passion for teaching.
During this incredibly difficult time, we come together as a community to support their family. For those who wish to extend their condolences and offer support, a GoFundMe page has been set up.
Let us hold the family in our thoughts and prayers as we remember and celebrate the wonderful legacy Josie and Luis leave behind.
