Back to School Shopping Blues?!? 😓As we gear up for the new school year, let’s use Naturalistic Environmental Teaching (NET) strategies to make back-to-school shopping both effective and enjoyable! 🛒✨ Here’s how to integrate NET techniques into your shopping trip:1.Incorporate Learning into Everyday Moments 🏫: Turn the shopping experience into a learning opportunity. Discuss colors, sizes, and shapes as you pick out supplies. For example, ask your child to find the “red folder” or compare “large vs. small” notebooks.2.Use Natural Reinforcement 🌟: Reinforce your child’s participation with natural rewards. Celebrate finding a desired item with a high-five or a verbal praise like, “Great job finding the perfect lunchbox!”3.Encourage Spontaneous Language 🗣️: Prompt your child to use language naturally during the shopping trip. Encourage them to ask questions or express preferences, like “Which notebook do you like best?” or “Can we get this color?”4.Foster Independence: Allow your child to make choices and carry out tasks independently, such as picking out their own pencils or checking off items from the list. This helps build confidence and self-reliance.5.Make It Interactive 🎨: Turn shopping into a game or a fun activity. For example, create a scavenger hunt for specific items on the list, or let your child be the “shopper” with their own mini-list.6.Model and Teach Skills 📈: Demonstrate and practice skills such as counting or sorting items. For example, show how to count out pencils and then let your child try. You’ll not only make back-to-school shopping an educational experience but also a fun and engaging one! Let’s get excited for Back to School!

How important is feedback to you during supervision?
The PBS Ethics Committee reminds us that feedback should be bi-directional. Supervisors can promote feedback from their supervises by fostering an environment grounded in psychological safety.
Stay tuned all summer long as we continue to provide supervision tips for both supervisors AND supervisees!

To our incredible team, thank you for all you do for the families we serve each day. Your dedication to improving lives and putting families first is deeply appreciated.
How to have a fun and sensory-friendly 4th ⬇⭐
The 4th of July can be a fun family day for all, however it’s important to learn how to ensure your child has a sensory-friendly experience throughout the day as they join in on the fun.
The PBS Ethics Committee shares a few tips on how to ensure a sensory-friendly environment that your child can feel comforted in, while prioritizing safety during the events of the day:
1. Use visual aids, social stories, or videos to explain fireworks, parades, and gatherings!
2. Reminders for what can upset your child and how to support them the day of can keep everyone happy.
3. Set up any needed sensory-related tools.
4. Plan for quiet places where your child can retreat if they become overwhelmed.
5. Have a plan in place in case your child gets lost or separated from you.

First things first, show us the data 🫡🦸
Check out this awesome throwback picture of Dr. Nolan and Tammy at their tour stop with our PBS East Missouri team!
Shannon O'Leary, our Senior Expansion Director said it best during their tour event:
"He [Dr. Nolan] makes it all possible! He is a visionary, he's put everything into motion, and keeps us moving in all the right directions. Tammy is the woman behind Dr. Nolan, who's driving the van, meeting the teams, and will know all of your names, your kids' names, your pets' names, your birthdays, etc. She supports him and supports all of us! We call her our first lady!"
We're so thankful to have our PBS superhero duo leading our teams and propelling us forward in the ABA field.
