EMERJ-SafeNow
We emphasize self-care as prevention. Care defense, self-defense, but more.We understand the impact of trauma and violence on people and communities.
We understand that ending violence or abuse means addressing, over time, the complex interplay between individual, relationship, community, institution, and societal influences. These influences include the media, social media and the internet as well as unique, societal and cultural influences. Our Approach
Step 1: We collaborate and share information with communities to identify gaps in service
Congrats and thanks to all the facilitators who assisted with the ground fighting class at Friendly House. The participants left feeling empowered to defend themselves on the ground. My favorite quote from our reflection circle was from our youngest participant: "When I was on the ground, I felt like I could do anything."

Let's continue his legacy by taking action: support a black-owned business, participate in a service or event or donate to a black organization.

Each of our own liberation is tied to one another. We cannot be fully free until every member of our community is free. That is why we must be intentional and steadfast in centering the voices of the most marginalized members of our community as we imagine a better world.
Our Black LGBTQ siblings need us to raise our voices in a resounding affirmation that their lives matter. We are strongest when we speak with one voice and affirm one another.

Advocate for Anti-Racist Policies
“The opposite of racist isn't 'not racist.' It is 'anti-racist.' What's the difference? One endorses either the idea of a racial hierarchy as a racist, or racial equality as an anti-racist. One either believes problems are rooted in groups of people, as a racist, or locates the roots of problems in power and policies, as an anti-racist. One either allows racial inequities to persevere, as a racist, or confronts racial inequities, as an anti-racist. There is no in-between safe space of 'not racist.”
― Ibram X. Kendi, How to Be an Antiracist
Systemic racism is happening right now, and we have the power to abolish it.We must examine how white supremacy of the past and present lives in our institutions today. EMERJ is committed showing up; addressing implicit bias within organizations; and supporting Black organizations and leaders.
Here are actions you can take today to help dismantle systems of racism :
