Good reminders as we head back to school! Stay safe and enjoy the ride!
Safety Starts at the Bus Stop: Your child should arrive at the bus stop at least five to ten minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive. Visit the bus stop before the first day of school and show your child where to wait for the bus: at least three giant steps (six feet) away from the curb. Remind your child that the bus stop is not a place to run or play. Practice bus stop safety this month as you prepare to return to school and share this post to remind others how important school bus safety is.
Thank you!!
Enough said!
School starts Wednesday, August 24th with a FULL DAY for all grades! Motorists should be aware of school buses and extra pedestrian traffic, both near the schools and at bus stops. And please BE PATIENT as the next week or two is always extra chaotic as parents and students get used to the new routine. Have a great school year!
Great news from Nutrition Services!!
Our team is getting ready and excited for the new school year to begin Tuesday! While Congress did not extend all free meals for all students, we did work very hard to get over 50 schools and programs approved for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This means students enrolled in the CEP schools will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch without the need to complete any paperwork. Please see the list of schools below.
Here are some pointers as we prepare for the new school year. Whether your student is a first time rider or a seasoned veteran of the school bus, go over these safety tips with them before school starts, 08/30/22!

“We are aware of recent deaths related to blue fentanyl-laced pills in Portland, which includes students in our community. We extend our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Portland Public Schools has contacted families to inform them of the issue, and our counselors, social workers, and other staff are currently providing on-site support. We would also like to stress the importance of getting these substances out of circulation. If anyone has information about these substances, we encourage them to notify staff or call the Portland Police Bureau non-emergency line at 503-823-3333. At PPS, we care deeply about our students, and we are committed to their safety and wellbeing." -Dr. Cheryl Proctor, Deputy Superintendent, Instruction & School Communities, at Portland Public Schools
