CAMP OVERLAND is a collaborative evening of live music, brand to brand engagement, craft beverage tastings, outdoor cooking demonstration, catered bites, brand activations, stargazing and an opportunity to hang out with like minded people and have good time, outside.

In another recent example of tradeshow promoters evolving to address consumer demands, SEMA is opening up (limited) access to the public. SEMA Fest was introduced in 2022 as an evolution of the one-night SEMA Ignited party into a two-day festival. This year, SEMA Fest is growing with numerous live bands to attract concert-goers. ...and one of the pricier ticket options opens up Friday-only access to the main SEMA tradeshow. This is a calculated play to slowly allow public access to a very busy tradeshow, but it's a smart move. Roles have reversed. Educated consumers now largely dictate what brands retailers should carry.

One of my favorite aspects about scouting solo (or in small groups) is finding the time to be still. ...to really see what is right in front of you.

There is an overlook in the Ochoco Mountains that I like to visit from time to time. It has a wonderful view of the sun setting behind the Cascade range. Ten peaks can be seen from this spot.

I've been here maybe a dozen times over the years and this time I noticed this weathered juniper growing out a crack in the rock outcropping, it's branches gnarled into a circular frame. This tree sits silently, weathering the seasons and watching every single sunset.

I will visit this spot again and lean against this tree to share its view.

We recently had the opportunity to join in on the festivities at the Snow Peak Way event at Sundance Resort. We look forward to the new partnership between the two brands and to visiting the new mid-mountain camping platforms when they are released. If you ever get a chance to attend a Snow Peak Way event, jump on it. They are fantastic events that bring people together in beautiful surroundings. I spent some time today tinkering with the bar component of the new drawer system that I am working on in one of our Land Cruisers (shot 1). The next step is designing and fabricating a bottle rail in the cubby next to the fridge (shot 2) that will display the whiskey bottles when the system is deployed AND safely keep them secure when in transit. Especially when bouncing around off road. One idea is to emulate the elastic fabric bands from this spice holder (shot 3). What other methods of storing / displaying liquor bottles have you run across? Shots 4 & 5 show a wider view of the system in use during a recent shakedown trip in the Mojave desert.

Last week was our annual pilgrimage to SEMA.

Here are a few snapshots. You can tell that I'm a bit biased towards Toyota 4x4s.

There were still a huge number of new Broncos, but this year seemed to be the year of the EV and EV-conversion. It was interesting to see that Ford and Honda / Acura pulled out of the show (is this the beginning of the end like when Trek and then Giant pulled out of Interbike?).

A batch of new MAXTRAX recovery gear arrived today. It won't every look this clean and tidy again, but we look forward to putting it to a hard life of frequent use.

The serenity of an alpine lake, good friends (both human and doggo) and the time to enjoy it. This is what grounds me.

I'm known to go to great lengths to seek out a good happy hour!

We had an opportunity to take a couple of Rivian R1T trucks out onto the skills course at Overland Expo West this year. It was impressive to watch how they handled every obstacle with ease. They are not intended to be the perfect rock-crawler, but they could very well become the perfect overlander. I look forward to seeing canopies with integral RTTs specifically designed for these vehicles with aerodynamics and impact on range at the forefront of the design process.
