More Workshops at PNSQC 2024:

"Rapid Software Test Automation" with Michael Bolton

Register Here: https://ow.ly/p2H050Tf0Ha

Test automation is a hot topic. If you are in the testing field, then you are probably being pressured to automate your work. But how should you go about it? Only certain specific aspects of testing can be automated, so which aspects should you focus on first? There are lots of expensive tools you could use, but there are also free tools, and maybe you can create some tools yourself. What should you NOT focus on? What traps must you try to avoid? How can AI help — or hurt?

Creating, applying, and maintaining useful automation to support testing can be immensely valuable. It’s also a huge challenge. This one-day class is designed to help you help you meet that challenge, by looking through the lenses of the Rapid Software Testing methodology.

More great workshops you can take advantage of at PNSQC 2024:

"The New Tester's Handbook" with Heather Wilcox

Starting a new job as a Quality Tester can be daunting - there's a lot to learn and know. Not only do you have to get up to speed on your company's technology, but you also may need to acquire new testing skills.

This workshop will cover the knowledge you need to know to be successful on your first day (or your 300th). Topics such as:

- Test Case Construction
- Test Plan Assembly
- Black Box vs. White Box Testing
- Risk-Based Testing
- Automation Theory
- Client vs.Server Testing

and other important information will be covered in depth using real life examples.

The Automagical Marvel - UI Automation Using A Hybridization Of Page Object And Logical Function Models with Sophia McKeever.

Register Here: https://ow.ly/rHav50Tf0y5

In this age of testing, maintainability and scalability are paramount. UI automation is often looked at with two views: either it's far too complex, requiring a lot of maintenance time and specialized knowledge therefore it's best done through simple low code point and click tools OR it's too flaky and unstable to rely on. What if there was a way to build a robust and intricate UI Automation framework in any element-based UI Automation Library that is simple to maintain? What if you could build a UI Automation framework that takes no understanding of the underlying UI automation library to build tests in?

By utilizing a cutting-edge paradigm that marries Page Object Models (POM) with a robust Logical Function Model (LFM) you can build a framework that is stable and robust with a low maintenance overhead that can build tests that are self-documenting and easy to understand. The Hybrid POM/LFM creates a layer where UI Elements are as easy to interact with as basic data types within your typical Object Oriented Programming language regardless of UI Automation technology.

In this interactive workshop you will learn:

- Build a robust and easy-to-maintain UI Automation Framework that is natively optimized for multithreading and parallel test ex*****on
- Wrap UI Elements in basic data types that make them easy and intuitive to use regardless of programming skill level
- Advanced techniques for building custom models around elements that make working with complex automation scenarios simple

An Introduction to API Security Testing with Bas Dijkstra

The rise in APIs has brought about new attack vectors, making it crucial for organizations to ensure their APIs are secure. It's great to know that testing can be made accessible with common tools like Postman and REST Assured.

Because "seeing is believing", Bas ran several API security testing experiments and talked us through his thought process and interpretation of the results so these experiments can be replayed against your own APIs.

AI Testing AI At Scale with Jason Arbon

Generative AI is accelerating development but how will it all be tested? GenAI is generating code all on its own. GenAI is even fixing its own bugs and adding new features–without a developer in the loop.

GenAI will soon generate 10X more code, and 10X faster–a 100X increase in the amount of software to be tested. The human-based approach to software testing just won’t scale.

Interestingly, GenAI can’t test the code it generates. Yes, it can generate unit tests, but it struggles testing larger systems, especially complex ones. The only way to test such complex systems is to test it – with AI. Only AI will be able to keep up with this coming tidal wave of code, risk, and complexity. AI-based testing isn’t just better, faster, or cheaper–it’s a necessity in the coming world of AI-generated code.

Jason will walk through how these types of AI-based testing systems are defined, operated and scale. The future is near, and it is a world of AI testing AI-generated code..

Register Here: https://ow.ly/YlqE50SRrwP

Advancements in AI with the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT4 and GPT-4o have sparked optimism and concern about the potential impact on software development, healthcare, climate change, and more.

It's crucial for industry professionals to critically evaluate these claims. People skilled and dedicated to testing are an early warning system for the business. In this keynote, Michael will challenge us (and himself) to critically assess our relationships with technology and hype, as well as our own beliefs.

The enormous rise in APIs to exchange data between systems has introduced a popular new attack vector for people with malicious intents. Therefore, to prevent ending up in the news, it's probably a good idea to ensure that your APIs are not vulnerable to common API security weaknesses and exploits.

The good news is that API security testing does not have to be hard or time-consuming, and it is not something only people with deep and specialist knowledge can do.

In this session, Bas Dijkstra will show you how to start testing API security using common and popular tools and libraries like Postman and REST Assured, with the 2023 OWASP API Security Top 10 as our guideline.

Because "seeing is believing", Bas will run several API security testing experiments and talk you through his thought process and interpretation of the results so you can replay these experiments against your APIs.

The Missing Link: Product Owner In Test with Srilu Balla

QA is often pigeonholed as mere 'bug finders' or the 'last step of the process', only remembered when something goes wrong. This limited perception fails to use the full potential of QA -- allowing it to get bogged down by day-to-day tasks that rarely allow for comprehensive product exploration unless extra time is carved out from sprints or projects.

This leaves us to ask: What exactly is QA assuring under these constraints? Organizations may desire a robust QA function but often struggle with defining or effectively utilizing it.

To address these challenges, let's talk about a transformative role: the 'Product Owner in Test' (POIT). Designed to revitalize stagnant practices, this role reimagines QA's position within software development. It suggests redefining QA as 'Quality Assistants', replacing traditional 'Test Cases' with 'Check Cases', and viewing 'Bugs' as opportunities for improvement.

Srilu Balla has been a Quality Assistant for 20+ years. She has worked as a Quality professional, Scrum Master, Product Owner, Team Lead and Manager. She designed the Interface Agnostic Automation Framework and presented it at PNSQC in 2011 and 2012, and spoke about the test case life cycle at PNSQC 2015. She is an expert at testing customer-facing applications.
