Classical Pearls
Classical Pearls Herbal Formulas™ are unique Chinese herbal formulations designed for the treatmen
OUR APPROACH IS SIMPLE
We manage the sourcing, production and formulation of the highest quality ingredients into unique and potent formulations based on the classical medical texts, and fine-tuned to treat modern patients suffering from the complex diseases of our times. Herbal medicine was once the only modality to cure serious diseases. Today, the intricate alchemical principles and the experi
It is harvest time for Wanggua (Trichosanthes cucumeroides), the gourd-like fruit that shows up as one of the wuhou (72 material manifestations) of the Chinese agricultural calendar during the 4th lunar month of the year (王瓜生: Snake Gourds Grow), which on the holomap is in turn associated with the Spleen.
Classical Pearls integrated this item in small amounts into Cinnamon Pearls, to energetically provide the Spleen with the energy of Tidal Hexagram 1 (Qian) and the uplifting quality in nature that is present during this time of year.
Since this item is not used medicinally anymore in modern China, Classical Pearls had to use Wanggu Gen (the root of the plant) as a replacement during the last 10 years, but we recently found a source in Jiangyou (where our Fuzi comes from in Northern Sichuan). The item was transported to our factory in Chengdu right after harvest, and is included fresh in our upcoming production of Cinnamon Pearls.
The seeds work best for our purposes if they are dry fried, thus taking on a warmer quality (all Trichosantes species are energetically on the cold side) and can stop bleeding or astringe mucous in bowel movements.
Addressing some of our most frequently asked questions 💡
It’s and today we’re highlighting Dragon Pearls 🐲 a “Black Label” remedy in the Legacy Series formulas.
Dragon Pearls are designed to address a wide variety of acute inflammatory conditions, regardless of their pathogenic classification.
The remedy contains a unique blend of the formulas and elements of Dai Ge San (Indigo and Cyclina Powder) to clear heat and toxins in the blood, Yinchenhao Tang to clear damp heat, Xiexin Tang to clear Yangming heat, Sini Tang to soothe pain, open collaterals, and balance the cold effect of the other cold and bitter herbs, and the addition of the Guijianyu, the Daoist “anti-demon” herb.
The dragon image is a reference to China’s ancient oracle bone script, where the term dragon stood for both “life-threatening invader” as well as “(restored) vitality.” Dragon Pearls are best used in combination with other formulas, and normally not suited for long-term consumption.
It is common in modern TCM to use cold and bitter herbs to fight pathogens. While Dragon Pearls does indeed contain a strong selection of bitter substances, there are three additional features that make this remedy unique.
Read more about the ingredients in this remedy and what these 3 features are.

Qingdai (Indigo)✨
Sourced from the vibrant leaves of the Indigo plant, Qingdai is a gem in traditional Chinese medicine. The journey begins with careful harvesting of mature leaves, ensuring they’re at their peak for potency.
Once collected, the leaves undergo a meticulous fermentation process. They are soaked in water, which helps break down their cellular structure and release the rich pigments. After soaking, the leaves are beaten to further extract the indigo dye.
This mixture is then allowed to ferment, a crucial step that transforms the leaves into a concentrated powder, packed with antioxidants and healing properties.
Qingdai is renowned for its ability to support skin health, boost immunity, and promote overall wellness.

It’s and today we’re highlighting Mama Pearls ❤️
Mama Pearls is a remedy that is primarily designed for breast health. It reflects the therapeutic insight that breast accumulations are most often a manifestation of pathological changes in the jueyin Pericardium system, which requires the use of the representative jueyin remedy Danggui Sini Tang. The base remedy is complemented by herbs that increase microcirculation, reduce masses, and have a direct anti-toxin and anti-accumulation effect. Other areas of the body that are holographically related to the jueyin system and can potentially benefit from this formula are the brain, the uterus/ovaries, and the liver.

What makes our aconite so special?
We are pleased to report that our contacts on the ground in Jiangyou, China have reported that this year’s Summer Solstice aconite (fuzi) harvest was successful!
Our efforts can serve as a successful example that proves the efficacy of ancient growing (didao) and alchemical processing techniques (paozhi), and restores one of the most powerful herbs of the material medica available for safe therapeutic use in modern times. To date, Classical Pearls has introduced nearly 20 tons of this type of traditionally grown and processed aconite to the Western market.
Classical Pearls sources 100 percent of its aconite from Jiangyou in China’s Sichuan province. The ancient county of Zhangming is situated near the epicenter of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, and has been identified by classical materia medica experts as the only place where genuine Chinese aconite should be sourced from.
In general, only 10% of aconite harvested is sourced from this region, but virtually all of China’s aconite is shipped here to receive the stamp “Genuine Jiangyou Fuzi” before going to market. To that end, Classical Pearls contracts with small farms on unpolluted land in Jiangyou to meticulously grow our aconite using traditional farming methods, and hand process the aconite with workers who earn a living wage in the area.

The summer solstice this year occurs on June 20 at 20:51 UTC, the earliest since June 20, 1796.☀️
The small farms in Jiangyou, China that Classical Pearls contracts with are also busy beginning to harvest aconite (fuzi) that was planted on the winter solstice last year. This ensures the aconite plant grows during the time of year when yang is in its ascendancy, then is harvested before yang begins to decline.
We'll share images with you from our 2024 aconite harvest as they become available to us. In the meantime, all of us at Classical Pearls wish you good health and rest this summer!

More from Heiner Fruehauf about Jiangyou fuzi:
"Most fuzi on the market today is not grown in the right area, is not grown at the right time of year, and most importantly, has not been processed appropriately. All these factors impact the quality of the fuzi we have to use these days. Li Shizhen, in his great Ming dynasty materia medica Bencao gangmu, very specifically points out that the right type of fuzi only grows in the ancient districts of Qianwei, Guanghan, and Longzhou, which refers to modern day Jiangyou in Sichuan province. All material medica scholars emphasized this point, like the Qing dynasty scholar Yang Sh*tai who wrote in 1833: 'Aconite from Longzhou is the best. Even though aconite grows in abundance elsewhere, it is weak and not suitable for medicinal use.'"
It’s and today we’re highlighting Banxia Houpo Tang (Pinellia and Magnolia Bark Decoction)!
This remedy first appeared 1,850 years ago in Zhang Zhongjing’s classic formula compendium, Essentials from the Golden Cabinet (Jingui yaolüe). Listed in the “Chapter on Miscellaneous Gynecological Disorders”, the remedy stands out by way of its highly specific indication “for women who feel as if there is a lump of roasted meat stuck in their throat.” This condition is now most often referred to as “plum-pit syndrome” (meihe qi), characterized by chronic discomfort in the throat region that is typically aggravated by emotional distress.
As one of the representative remedies in the pinellia family of herbs, Banxia Houpo Tang is a safe and efficient way to address a broad variety of counterflow issues afflicting the respiratory system, the digestive system, the nervous system, the endocrine system and the cardiovascular system.
Common diagnostic markers for these variegated afflictions are non-specific throat discomfort and symptoms of emotional distress.

It’s ! May is Women’s Health Month, so this week we’re featuring Guanyin Pearls. Swipe to see some of the ingredients we source for this remedy.
The design of Guanyin Pearls reflects a unique approach to a wide array of menopausal and post-menopausal issues. It combines the conventional yin tonic approach to hot flashes with the yang tonic Qianyang Dan (Submerge the Yang Pellet), a 19th century modification of the classical Fuzi Lizhong Tang (Rectify the Middle Decoction with Aconite) by the scholar-physician Zheng Qin’an, revered founder of the Fire Spirit School.
Zheng Qin’an and his remaining disciples interpret hot-flashes and other signs of upward mobility in the elderly as a leaking of the Kidney battery, which requires a drawing back of the life force into the lower dantian. This downward anchoring effect is accomplished by combining aconite and amomum.
In younger women, Guanyin Pearls can be used for fertility issues, but should be discontinued as soon as pregnancy has been achieved.

It’s ! This week we’re featuring Serpent Pearls. Swipe to see some of the ingredients we source for this remedy.
Serpent Pearls is a modification of the classical remedy Wumei Wan, one of the representative jueyin remedies in the 2nd century formula compendium, Treatise on Disorders Caused by Cold (Shanghan lun).
Jueyin syndrome is the last and most complex of the six conformations outlined in the classic, generally featuring chronic, obstinate, and complex disorders characterized by multiple organ involvement as well as intertwined heat and cold symptoms. Wumei Wan therefore contains all five flavors of the herbal spectrum, and combines both extremely hot/pungent and extremely cold/bitter herbs.
While many different types of chronic disease processes can be treated via the jueyin approach, this formula has traditionally been used most often for the treatment of parasites.
In recent times, the remedy’s use has been expanded to treat a wide variety of complex chronic disorders, particularly those affecting the digestive system.
